@sci-fitsunami please just go.
Â
Please RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS! Who are YOU to tell me to go??? I was probably a MOTU fan long before you. Â
Maybe YOU should stop trying to own this forum! Who the F do you think you are anyway??? How old are you anyway? When did you first get into MOTU? I've been a MOTU fan since the stores first started getting wave 1 in the 80s. I was collecting MOTU before Filmation. I still remember where I bought my very first MOTU figure. It was Bradlees on Boston Ave. in Bridgeport Connecticut. They only had 1 lone Skeletor sitting on the shelf. I had to wait a couple months before I ever saw another figure. The next time I saw the figures was at Child World in Westport Connecticut. How about you big guy? When did you start? Were you there at the very, very beginning like I was?
@sci-fitsunami lol

Also, there are 2 MOTUs. The Vintage Collection & the Cartoon Collection. They are even labeled differently because Mattel knows they are 2 separate things. You can like one but not the other. Being a MOTU fan does not mean you have to automatically be in love with every single thing the franchise farts out.Â
After 40 years of being a fan of the 80s franchises I have noticed that most fans believe they must LOVE every single thing no matter how bad it is or else they are not a "TRUE FAN". That's a load of BS. It's ok to be a MOTU fan but not like every single thing. Some ideas/concepts were really bad & should have never been greenlit.Â
@sci-fitsunami you've never seen my thoughts on MOUTC.

And I don't want "deep-cut" characters at the expense of actual characters that appeared in the original vintage line. Kol-Darr could have been Dragstor or Rio-blast. See what I mean? Because of your "deep-cut" characters, I am forced to wait years for Dragstor & Rio-Blast. Those 2 characters could/should have been in my collection already. I HATE modern-toy collecting & I am only sticking around until I can complete my collection. Which could have been done already if Mattel hadn't artificially dragged it out with Rulers Of The Sun, The Cartoon Collection & Turtles Of Grayskull .
I see your point with this but I don't have a beef with the Cartoon Collection. You might hate it but that show is foundational. NE, 200X, CG, and Rev never has or will come close. Like it or not it's a damn bedrock. Sun Man you got a point. Turtles of Grayskull you have a bigger point because it's nonsense.
I would blame the Snakemen most of all. Those new snake characters and playset is somehow considered vintage. Mattel said they would finish the vintage line and now they are dragging it out way longer than necessary making new snake shit. Finish the real vintage line first and then pimp your new snake characters and playsets.

I think the really interesting revelation \ argument here is that MOTU was aimed at teens \ young adults. I don't think I've ever heard that, even about the first run.
@dynamicg the interviews in "The Toy that Made Us" suggests this to be false.

Yeahhh...every vintage commercial, catalog photo, and box photo consisted of KIDS playing with these action figures, not teens or young adults. I've never ever heard of that either lol. ÂI think the really interesting revelation \ argument here is that MOTU was aimed at teens \ young adults. Â
@depp76 and after the MOTU team pitched the line to Child World and TRU both companies asked how 3 year olds would know how to play with the toys.

@sci-fitsunami Boohoo - your narrow preferences don't take priority over mine - isn't that tragic? 🤣
I could easily use your own logic to argue that it's your damn vintage characters getting made and re-made over and over and over in various lines that have been getting in the way of the cool deep cut characters that I've waited 4 decades for, so try being in my shoes if you want to know what real frustration is like.
Oh and before you throw that joke of a flex out there again, I've been a massive MOTU fan since the pre-Filmation era too, so don't even go there as if you're some kind of all-knowing elder (Eldor?) around here.Â

Just look at the artwork on the original boxes. The box art for Castle Grayskull was definitely not aimed at toddlers. Just like Ken Kelly's art for the Micronauts. That was some seriously awesome fantasy art on an adult level. That's one of the main things that attracted me to MOTU. And the original Skeletor figure was pretty scary/demonic for a toddler. And remember, in the 80s we also had the "Satanic Panic" going on. Pretty sure most parents wouldn't want to buy Skeletor for a 3 or 4 year old. That figure was definitely more for kids 8-13 like me.Â
MOTU was out for like a year before the Filmation cartoon & I never got a Looney Tunes vibe from any of it. Just compare the original Mantenna toy to the Filmation version. Filmation Mantenna is straight-up Looney Tunes. Goofy as hell. Perfect for kids 4 or 5.Â
Well, it doesn't matter. I'm a PRE-FILMATION fan. Filmation took the entire franchise in a completely different direction than I wanted. If everybody feels the need to give me s*** over it then so be it. I have a right to my opinion. I never liked the Filmation Cartoon so sue me!
My original point was that I just want this to end. If they had stuck to the Vintage Collection, the line could have been done already. I just want to finish up & put this behind me. I've already invested 3 years into it & I only have a few more figures to go. But they're dragging it out like crazy. What happened to this month? We got Rokkon, then Sy-Klone & then nothing MOTU for April. I was expecting Extendar this month but we got nothing. 6 months between Lady Slither & Rokkon and now another month wasted. And we still have reveals from a year ago that haven't been released yet like Necro-Conda, Terroar, Lord Grasp & Night Stalker. Mattel has all but dropped the Vintage Collection & is now going full force with the Cartoon Collection & Turtles Of Grayskull. Like I've been saying all along. They should have finished up the Vintage Collection in 2024 & then started the Cartoon Collection for 2025. Â
Damn! Gimme a break! I don't want to be dealing with Mattel Creations for another 2 or 3 years. This sucks! Â

Kids back in the 80's weren't as soft. We could handle some blood and guts.

I’ve been gone for the last 3 days and looks like I have a lot of reading to catch up on😂

Interestingly enough, I've been trying to do the math in my own life for a few years now. I was born in June of 82 and I had several figures from some of t he earlier waves. Like I just remember HAVING them. My parents didn't get them used, they say they bought them for me. The MOTU I have memories of are episodes running in syndication ( I think on USA) and some of the late line figs, but no memories of going to an actual Toy Store because they didn't really exist where I lived.
All that story to say that my parents must have been buying figures for me when I was 2Â or 3 (there was chewing evidence) and I'm apparently in the latter tier of MOTU fans due to my unfortunate birth.
@dynamicg I was born in January of 81 and I had He-Man since before I can remember, Skeletor too, I think. I can clearly remember getting five or six figures and maybe two or three vehicles/ creatures. At least from my earliest memory until age 6 or 7 after that things become more clear.
