In 2021, like the Elves of Middle Earth and like the Klingons of Star Trek, Eternians joined the small number of prestigious fictional universes that contained its own unique functional language.
HE-LANG, also referred to in-universe as “Kudu-Kesh“, is a Masters of the Universe constructed language (conlang) that first appeared in the Netflix animated series “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” and was expanded upon in its follow-up season “Masters of the Universe: Revolution“.
Created by series co-director Patrick Stannard, HE-LANG is a wonderful, fully-functional language that can be both spoken & written, and in lore was created by Kuduk Ungol to unite the fractured peoples of Eternia.
Patrick Stannard has graciously unlocked the doors and shared the keys to the construction of this exciting language… which will provide fans the building blocks to not only converse among one another in HE-LANG, but expand upon it! So what are we waiting for? Let’s dive into HE-LANG!
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE ART BOOK: The version of Kudu-Kesh briefly detailed in the "The Art of Masters of the Universe: Revelation" book published by Dark Horse is not current. In Lore, it represents a younger version of Kudu-Kesh. Per Patrick Stannard, Et-nom Ga-hot Fak-res is one of the earliest written iterations of Kudu-kesh when the language was still in its fledgling stage. (Outside of Lore, the language of He-Lang was still being fine tuned as scenes in "Masters of the Universe: Revelation" were being completed.)
However, what we now possess below is the most current iteration of the language, and the most accurate to creator Patrick Stannard's goals and principles regarding the magical langage of Kuduk Ungol.
Introduction to HE-LANG: The Basics!

Now that you have watched the video, below are the raw study materials necessary to fully converse in HE-LANG as provided by its creator Patrick Stannard. Any additional supplements not written by Patrick is delineated with green text boxes.
Phonology
AJ'S NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: Letters can sometimes be confusing when it comes to sound. For instance, the letter "C" in English can represent different sounds depending on the word it is being used in. The letter "C" in the word "ceiling" has an S sound, while the letter "C" in the word "click" has a K sound. When it comes to a sound alphabet however, more specifically the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), each symbol only represents one sound the human mouth can produce.
The below phonemic inventory represents the entire sound alphabet used specifically in the language of HE-LANG - Kudu-Kesh:
*Bold letters represent the phoneme as represented by the International Phonetic Alphabet.
p P as in Pat | g G as in Go |

Lexicon
AJ'S NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: A "Lexicon" is basically a dictionary, an inventory of established words in the HE-LANG - Kudu-Kesh language.
Please remember that what you see in "WORD" column below is NOT how you write the word, but how you pronounce it, using the sound inventory explained in the above Phonology section.

Lenition
AJ'S NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: Have you ever noticed while speaking quickly, speakers tend to simplify their pronunciation of words? Well that is basically what "Lenition" is, the weakening of consonant sounds, making them softer and easier to pronounce, which often evolves how languages are spoken over time.

Alphabet
AJ'S NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: It is time to study the written language of HE-LANG aka "Kudu-Kesh" Please keep in mind that the symbols that create the HE-LANG alphabet may be flipped both horizontally and/or vertically depending on where it actually is positioned in a word. (You will see examples of this in the "Word Construction" section.)
Consonants
Vowels
Word Construction
AJ'S NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: MAGIC and TECHNOLOGY. GOOD and EVIL. Like the He-Man "H" symbol itself, Eternia is all about BALANCE. This is why the WORDS of the ancient language of "Kudu-Kesh" were all written in a "H" framework.
- Consonants (dret) are placed on the fulcrum (ke-to) with their backs facing the center. The first syllable lies below the fulcrum and supports the remaining syllables on top. Vowels (pit) are placed with their base facing the fulcrum.
- Consonants at the end of the word face right to left, all other vowels and consonants face left to right.
AJ'S NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: When you write a word in HE-LANG using the letters in the above alphabet, instead of writing the letters in a straight line (left to right) like you would in English, you basically write the letters on a "fulcrum" in a way that visually results in the letter "H" representing balance. We created a little cheat-sheet below:
Syntax (VSO)
AJ'S NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: Syntax is basically the proper arrangement of words to create a well-formed sentence. In an English sentence, the proper syntax is usually Subject-Verb-Object. (He-Man holds shield). In a HE-LANG sentence, the proper syntax is VSO or Verb-Subject-Object (Holds He-Man Shield).
If it helps you remember "VSO" when forming a HE-LANG sentence, think of the phrase: Action-Figure-Accessory.
- It is important that He-Man wields the Sword of Power!
- Is important it, that, Wields He-Man the Sword of Power!
- Zɛt-kä ɸäk-ɹɛs mät-ni ɹik pɪ-ɛt hi-mæn äɹ län-ti-[k͜x]o!
And that is the end of our study (at least for now) in the learning of the HE-LANG / “Kudu-Kesh” language.
