So if He-man.org returned in the future, all of our accounts would still be intact, and all of our posts would still be there?
No one else can start a site called He-man.org. Val Staples will always own it. How much do you think it was costing him annually?
He-Man.Org was the largest and best Masters or the Universe site and it felt like it was MATTEL’S official He-Man site, especially since a lot of the people from the site like Val Stalpes, James Eatock, and Emiliano Santalucia were interviewed for the special features on all the He-man and She-Ra DVDs, and He-Man.org was mentioned in the credits. It made things feel like HE-MAN.ORG would always be around, until we grew old and died.
I'm not sure how much it cost to run the site but I am sure the amount he got from running the site was a red number.Â

@smitty-81 Dorrmann said a car payment so I’m guessing anywhere between $400-$600

And if he had at least $1,200 in disposable income it could have kept going maybe even gotten that face lift it badly needed.Â

If Val asked us all for money and we knew it was to save He-Man.org I think he would have received much more than he needed.

I hate to say it but I'm poor.Â

I see a lot of talk about asking for help. A lot of us used to donate to the Org monthly, that's how I became a Grayskull Warrior (see my sig). Out of the blue, the payment system was dropped what feels like a few years ago. Maybe that could have come back? IDK. I'm sad it's gone, especially the wealth of content but life goes on. Live the journey 😉

I love that's your sig bro!
You think the payment system was stopped because he knew he was close to hanging up his cleats and knew he needed to give at least a years worth of working org to anyone who donated?

Cant believe a simple board can cost hundreds of dollars a month. The content was mostly text and there were a couple hundred active users, not millions.
Plus probably a few hundred gigabytes of attachments, but yeah with a suitable hosting arrangement storage/bandwidth shouldn't have been that.
But at some point in the past hosting really was that expensive, and if contracts just roll over costs don't come down.
And getting a new hosting arrangement with old versions of software to support running outdated forum software does add complications, the site did need some work doing on it.

This can potentially be a huge issue. I know from personal experience that often it is less time consuming to start from scratch. Sometimes repairing the wall is no longer an option and you just have to replace the drywall.

In this case the options would have been upgrading vBulletin (financial cost + time cost) or converting the vBulletin install to something else, probably most practically phpBB and with the additional step of archiving part/all of the existing forums first to make a conversion easier (software free but greater time cost). Definitely not a five minute job either way.
It was very abrupt. I was shocked that we only got a 7 day notice. I wish Val had something earlier so a solution could have been found.

Honestly, the piss poor way he handled it tells me that he didn't want a solution.

So by now everyone who didn’t join here or the other site went to social media?
@brasco Facebook groups. I also heard there is a forum still running on He-Man.org for select group but I don't know if that's true.
That sounds like BS.
@longtooth Dude you don't believe in secret societies? They're real! I bet @jukka is a part of it!
