Hot on the heels of the news that Travis Knight is being targeted to direct the new "Masters of the Universe" film (that report can be found HERE), now we have the synopsis for the upcoming movie courtesy of Deadline. As Masters of the Universe lore has been different with every new incarnation, what can…

For the love of Eternia! Why???? Put Rob David in charge of the script. This is insane at this point.
Even if most of it takes place on Eternia, I don't like the fact that he'll basically be an Earthling, so we'll have to put up with modern day jokes and references.
@ninadust Are you a plant? cause the only plant I like was in Led Zepplin. You could just as easily keep him on Eternia and forced into hiding and still have that time gap. Going to earth is just lazy writing.
No I am not a plant. I am a woman with my own opinions and I resent you saying that.

Adam will probably be like Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy with references the rest of Eternia won't understand.

Someone spelled Eternia wrong in the article. They spelt it EARTH. There is No earth in Eternia!
This is the same treatment as the Nee brothers. It is effectively the Clark/Superman origin retold as Adam/He-Man. If I remember correctly, he does not remember he is an alien until he finds the sword, and there is a lot of time spent with him as a football player at an American high school.Â
Everyone who is looking forward to a She-Ra series at Amazon, it is very similar to this. Again, there is a reason Netflix passed on both of these treatments.

Clark/Superman origin retold as Adam/He-Man. This is not what I would pick for a He-Man movie but if it's not told for yucks and played as serious as the Christopher Reeve movie I might still enjoy this thing I hope?

After seeing what he has done with Revelation/Revolution, I'm good. Please don't let Rob David write anything anymore.
Not a fan of the idea of sending Adam to earth. This would only make sense, if it somehow ties to the fact that his mom came from Earth. I know this is supposed to appeal to a broader audience, to put the viewer into Adam's shoes, but I guess it all depends on how they pull it off. Most of the time the "How" is more important than the "What". Also: playing into the question of "how" is "when". I think it might be a fun idea to send Adam to live in the 1970s and 80s. That could give thematic through line with MOTU originally being an 80s property...
Dose "Hollywood" really think so little of us that we won't understand a story with out Earth or Earthlings in ever story? There's no need to take every sword and sorcery to Earth or have it be set in some real historical time period.Â

@bendortheconqueror I hear what you're saying, but the 80s lens thing has been done with the likes of Stranger Things.
The thoughts of seeing Adam in an American High school is more than a little worrying. The John Hughes, Ferris Bueller style movie has been done with Spiderman Homecoming.
I agree with you that the how is often more important than the what, but please, for the love of god, let them remember that this is MOTU. Swords, sorcery, technology, monsters, demons, spaceships, beasts, etc. It's hard to see room for American football in there.Â
All that said, I'm keeping an open mind and will wait to see what materialises.Â

Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting."

The already is an earthling in the story and it's Marlena. Seriously. The story that has been living in my mind rent free for years is simply: Marlena crashes her ship on Eternia, falls in love with Randor, cut to Adam 19 years later, Skeletor attacks Eternos, Adam learns about his fate as the defender of Eternia and becomes He-Man. Boom. Simple story with Marlena as an emotional anchor and the character the audience experiences Eternia through. Instead they have to change and bend the original lore just so they don't have to use a female character as a guide into this world.
The universe has changed with every series and movie. This is not new.
