This was an amazing movie. Don't stay away because it's in subtitles because you will be missing out.

The best way I can personally describe it is with Godzilla Minus One, they wrote a compelling movie and then added Godzilla to it. And some of this movie evoked for me the best parts of Jaws! 🙂

We have the Power!
I really enjoyed the movie! it did a great job of having me care about the human drama and not just the big bad monster!
I saw Godzilla Minus One on the giant RPX digital screen during a special pre-release engagement!
Wow! This was a much different experience than I thought it was going to be... this is probably one of the best Godzilla movies ever made.
There was a much tighter focus on the affects, aftermath, and personal tolls on the people living in post-WWII Japan. It's a movie that is about the human characters just as much as it is about the giant monster. This was such a breath of fresh air and worked much better than it did in Shin Godzilla... and Minus One is all the better for it.
The decision to go all CGI was a risky one, but I think that it ultimately pays off when all is said and done. As much as I love practical effects, this version of Godzilla is genuinely terrifying and his power is almost unbelievable... there are a couple of 'stiff' shots, but overall, the effects look just as good as - if not better - than anything the MCU has been putting out.
However, one of the most brilliant pieces of this whole experience is the music. It is absolutely brilliant! Not only did they retain and remaster the original Godzilla score, but the added music throughout is just amazing. I sat through the entire credits crawl just because I was enjoying the music so much.
This certainly didn't turn out to be the Godzilla movie I was expecting... it ended up being the Godzilla movie I didn't know I needed.
Obviously, this garners a high recommendation from me for any kaiju fans, but really, this is a great movie for anyone wanting a true cinematic experience that happens to feature a giant monster.

I think Minus One and the Shin Godzilla are the two Godzilla movies people need to see if they are not big fans of Godzilla. It's Godzilla for people who don't normally like GodzillaÂ

Agreed! For me it is a perfect recipe for a Godzilla movie. Write a compelling drama and then put Godzilla in it. 🙂

Wow, what an excellent statement! 🙂

I actually agree with this wholeheartedly. If you are not a fan of the Legendary Godzilla movies, do not give up on the atomic monster just yet. Check out Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One. One goes down like a good beer, the other goes down like a smooth brandy. If one is not for you, the other might still be. 🙂

I'm excited about the reaction on this thread. This movie is receiving the love it deserves.
Hell yeah! I just saw this on Netflix. It lived up to the hype.Â
I loved this movie. It took me back to my childhood. My young cousin would rent or find old Godzilla dubbed bad movies on TV or rent them on VHS. We'd build forts and hide in them from Godzilla. I loved the heart in this and the redemption. I didn't expect the one twist at all.

@asterstar Same here and it got a bit dusty too.. That movie had so much heart and hit all the right notes.
