What was everyone's first video game system? I ask this question under the assumption that we're all around the same age, I know that some of you may be older or younger.
I was born in 75 and my first was an Atari 2600, my dad bought it around 81 or 82. The system came with Combat. I got a lot of arcade titles Like Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong jr, Mario Bros and Pac Man. I was a Pac Man nut and was massively disappointed when it came out on the Atari. Apparently, it was rushed out fast and the result was next to awful but I still played the heck out of it. I also had games like Yars revenge, Asteroids, Chopper Command and Spider Fighter which was a personal favorite and two games I played but never owned were E.T and Haunted House.
In 1986 the Nintendo released in the U S. and was quickly acquired by me. Super Mario Bros came with it and was classic. Surprisingly though, I didn't go for the arcade type games on the NES, no Pac Man or Donkey Kong or Astroids. My favorite game on the NES was Metroid which continues to bring me enjoyment. Mike Tysons Punch Out (which I beat back then but can't now) I loved the game Pro Wrestling (Starman was my guy) I didn't buy the Mario followup games for some reason like Super Mario 2 or 3 but I would play them later. I sorta tapered off in later years but I did buy WrestleMania and TMNT around 1989. As an adult I played and loved the Lone Ranger ( The game not the guy, I don't have a thing for Armie Hammer! 😆 )
In the early 90's I got a game boy and played Tetris and Spider-Man but it was stolen by a helper my dad had at the time so I don't have much more to add to this section.
In around 1996 I got into some computer games like Diablo which is awesome but I haven't kept up with. I also played Beast Wars on PC which everyone seems to hate but I enjoy strangely.
I guess this turned into a general vintage gaming post but I'm still curious about your systems. My friend who was born in 1978 and is only three years younger than me never had an Atari, his first system was the NES.
Anyway, what are your guy's thoughts?
Mine was the Atari 2600 as well. I was born in 80 so I want to say I was around 4 when we got it. I remember playing donkey Kong, pitfall, joust and pac man
Great topic bro!
Atari 2600 popped my video game cherry!!! It was my brother's and he had a ton of games. He had these roller controllers were we could play this breakout viking game? I dunno I can't remember what it was called. Combat was fun too where you can switch to ships and planes and tanks and fight each other. It was so freakn awesome. I think Pitfall was my favorite game tho.

@brasco I forgot about pitfall, I think I had super pitfall though. I never had Joust, I never understood it, all I remember are eggs and ostriches! 😆
@he-dad Yeah it was Breakout, I believe there was at least two versions, Breakout and Super Breakout. I had a version where you had to break bricks in four different corners, I think it was super breakout but I don't remember. Your brother had the trackball controller, I never had those.
- I forgot to mention I also had an Odyssey 2, I only ever had one game, Cryptologic and a racing game bundle.
I was born in 1983, and unless you count the games I played on the old computer (one of those ones with the green and black monitor), I didn't get into console gaming until we got a Super Nintendo with Super Mario World.

My first video game system is not qualified as a system. It was an antique computer called the ZX Spectrum. And my favourite game was called the Robin of the Wood. Cherished memories!

Atari, which I got so I could play Pong in 1972. Trust me, I was the envy of everyone who lived in Chicago's seventy-story tall Lake Point Tower. 😉

It wasn't a trackball. I looked them up they were called paddle controllers. And the game was called Warlords. It was so fun.

Oh geez, I remember those monochrome screens, they were classic!😆

I've heard of the Spectrum but never played it, I never had a computer in the 80's, I didn't get a PC until the mid 90's.

I've never played Pong, guess I'm behind the times.

Ah ok. I remember seeing the Warlords cartridge in a hardcover book that Dark Horse released called the Art of Atari.

Some have compared the ZX Spectrum to the American Commodore computer but I do not know how accurate that is.

We got the Intellivision sometime in the very early 80s. I remember spending a lot of time playing Baseball, Burgertime, and D&D.
Quite the opposite, you're ahead of them. Pong was one of the first video games, way back before hair was invented. 😉
Though I cannot remember which version, mine was an Atari! I absolutely loved Space Invaders! In fact I still like that game to this day lol.

I love Burger Time, was never any good at it though.
