Hi guys, this may be a dumb question, but as we know in most forms of Masters of the Universe lore, Adam and Teela have grown up together as childhood friends and end up becoming lovers. Why exactly is this? What do they see in each other? I'm only asking this is because for my own incarnation I want to give a l wanted to add a romantic element that hopefully hasn't been done before. Yes, initially it would start with Teela start developing a crush on He-Man, and then eventually Adam. I also know that in most versions Adam and Teela are the descendants of Grayskull and his wife Veena, but I didn’t want that to be the main reason. Thoughts?
I wanna believe its the classic trope of Friends to Lovers that most Female/Male relationship had at the time. but their relationship feels, strange to me.
During the 1983 series, Teela keeps bad mouthing Adam but has a crush on He-Man. In the episode 'Into The Abyss', Teela refers to herself and Adam like 'Brother and Sister' when she talks to Man-At-Arms. He would also acknowledge the fact as well
Those are the main reasons the relationship irks me the wrong way. There is probably also more ways it irks me as well, but I am way to sick to think about any lol
(These are the screen shots from said episode I mentioned earlier)

Here is Teela explaining what kind of man she is looking for:🙂

Especially back then, when children of the opposite sex were paired and always together playing, the friendship often was perceived by all as mimicking a sibling relationship. But as we all grow, things can sometimes change. There's a whole romantic sub-genre in movies and books I think called friends-to-lovers that explores that whole "Date Julie? But she's been like a sister to me!" where two great friends leave the friend-zone into a romantic relationship not realizing their soul mate was infront of them the whole time.
Why is Adam Teela's match? Again I would point to this clip here...🙂
Regarding always being angry at Adam, Teela is always yelling at Adam because he's late, or runs away from danger, or can never be found when she needs him... which has a lot to do with him being He-Man and not his good qualities! 🙂

@admin you sure know your Filmation bro! Nice clip!

No kidding. Thanks! I'll keep that in mind.
Here are my two cents: Adam and Teela do follow the “friends to lovers” trope, just like @princeofeternia said. Tipically, one friend develops romantic feelings for the other first, or at least becomes aware of them before the other. This creates romantic tension and the good old “will they, won’t they” that’s so addictive to watch. It also creates the on-going conflict needed to keep a story entertaining.
I believe Adam is well aware of his own feelings, while Teela is subconsciously attracted to Adam, and for this very reason, she’s even more frustrated with him, because she knows he’s not living up to his true potential. I’ve heard that Teela is too mean to him, just remember, that’s not her fault, she *was written that way* as a spitfire warrior goddess archetype, to keep the conflict entertaining, and as a narrative device to keep these two apart.
Now, to support my theory that they have unresolved feelings for each other, let me talk about a Filmation episode called “Pawns of the Game Master”. In this episode, Adam can’t transform right away, and is left to his other abilities to get out of trouble.
In the final scene, He-Man boldly asks, “Just between us, Teela, what kind of a man would you prefer? Someone like Adam or someone like me?”
To which Teela answers, “I don’t know. I guess I’m looking for a man with Adam’s wit and your courage, but where would I find him?”
He-Man and Sorceress wink at each other, while He-Man grins, triumphant. We know Adam and Teela will get together at some point.
It’s noteworthy that Teela doesn’t list physical aspects, but personality traits! So please don’t start saying that she wouldn’t date Adam because he’s not so muscular… to put mildly the nasty things my eyes have read elsewhere!
There’s another “romantic” episode you might want to watch, called “The problem with Arcadia”. It’s the only episode where Adam and Teela share a hug, but boy! If they’re just friends, they’re doing it wrong!
To go back to the original question, I’d say that Teela sees Adam’s true potential, his wits and his compassion. And Adam is attracted to her passionate nature. I’ve only cited Filmation as a source, but there are many clues throughout MOTU lore that deal with the love connection between them. I recently collaborated on a YouTube podcast with an episode devoted to this very topic, “He-Man Loves Teela Valentine's Day Special” if you want to deep-dive.
Whew! This was long winded, but I hope it’s helpful.
Anytime there is a male and female that is close but not in a relationship they are deemed to be like brother and sister. It might not be fair but it is needed to counter a romantic conclusion that society will often come to.
If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will fail above everyone else's success. -James Cameron
In regards to Adam's attraction to Teela, apparently according to psychologists, many men are drawn to women who resemble their loving mothers. And Queen Marlena is a strong, powerful, independent red-haired woman... just like Teela. So I guess that connection can be made too! 🙂

@princeofeternia It's really going to feel Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia gross for you bro if they start kissing in Revolution!

@he-dad Yeah, Already experienced my reaction of them holding hands and the photo of them kissing (Not sure if its fan made or official, but it will happen soon).
Teela and Adam's relationship just isn't my cup of tea, but I don't mind it when others enjoy it
@princeofeternia If it's the one I'm thinking of, I think it's from the DC reboot comics. I don't even think they were teenagers yet. The other one that looks like it is a page twoards the end, at Adam and Teela's wedding.
@deltavax I don't think so, I personally never read the DC comics. But I did find the art. I thought it was official but after looking at the water mark, I found out it was fan art. The attachment is the fan art mentioned with the water marks in the bottom left corner
Oh, no. You're right. This is an artwork based on Revelation.
@elder I don't think ALL friends should become lovers, but in the case of Adam and Teela it seems natural to me. I don't get any sibling energy from them... they grew up more like close neighbors than siblings in my opinion. They weren't raised by the same parents or anything like that. It's also normal to develop attraction a little later in life and not to "be born in love". So them being just friends before hormones kick in, or even a lot later, that's just normal...
But guess who wrote an entire fanfic about them discovering those feelings when they are teens? And then another when they are grown ups and act on those feelings? Yes, me 😊 https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12430119/1/Rising-Moons-Prequel-to-Early-Stars
@mariadoslunas That's one of the ones I was thinking of! Thanks
So now that Evil-Lyn is just Lyn, and the Sorceress Teela Na is no longer with us, I wonder if Lyn and Duncan are going to get together in Revolution? I see how Lyn's eyes light up when she talks about him... 🙂
