@durendal do you mean like the Krang figures that are just now hitting shelves, the Mossmen they're clearing out or the Panthors they couldn't give away?

@kraken I understand the concern but Duplico is the exception and I think more of the for how he was handled goes to Mattel.

Terroar, Lord Gr'Asp...
Plus here in Canada stuff like Krang, Moss Man, and quite a few others, like the NA MV figures, never appeared at retail and couldn't even be ordered through other retailers due to their "exclusive" status...Â

Terroar and Lord Gr'Asp aren't out yet. But you make a good point about markets outside the US. It's just another reason ALL EXCLUSIVES SHOULD BE FAN CHANNEL AND A RETAILER.Â

@brasco It's 8-10 Mossemen at 3 different Walmarts in my area. One Walmart got them early and then the others got him months later. Both Targets in my city have the cartoon collection and ToG. I don't think the distribution thing is a Mattel only thing either, Transformers have been really inconsistently stocked at Target and Walmart.
To be clear, I fully agree with Smitty that these should be fan channel as well. Ideally they wouldn't do this shit at all, but this is what seems to be happening and there is some back end reason.
Does anyone have any information on any major changes that WM \ Target have made to their ordering? Lately it seems they are doing WAY more clearance than I ever remember them doing. I thought it would just be a post Christmas purge, but it's ongoing. My theory is that most products are so cheap and they make money on tiny margins \volume so they are just loading up, selling what they can at a big profit and then purging - still at a profit.

You saw the Cartoon Collection at Target? I keep looking but no luck. There once was a link to it on their website but they pulled it over a month ago.

@dynamicg from what I’ve seen, retail stores are getting them very late after most of us find them online or eBay. That and one of my targets got in 6 Sun-man’s and nothing else from that wave. That’s why they sit there for monthsÂ
I can almost hear the people at Mattel talking... "Collectors like rare, super exclusive stuff right, right?" and a thousand collectors crying out "Nooooooo". Ah well, another piece of Motu Origins I will not be able to get ^^

Keep them wanting more.
@depp76 There's nothing new in this set, so what's the point? We all have these two figures already.
NEXT.
You guys know that this is not an official Mattel release... right?

@lasastard For once this is not Mattel’s fault. It simply a fun collectible that a toy convention in Germany is doing, themselves, together with a big distributor. I assume with permission from Mattel, but I don’t think Mattel is actually producing these.
Something fun for the visitors, a celebratory keepsake, but also no new figures, of course. Not something collectors in other countries should feel bad about 🙂

It's blury but I think the box says it is a project from fans for fans. The artist is legit though. He does figure art for MOTU figures.

@smitty-81 Yes I knew that when I posted it. I just though it was neat and wanted to share.
@he-dad Yes Simon Eckert was well plugged in with the fan community in Germany even before he got to do official Mattel stuff. I’m sure he enjoyed doing this side project.
I also like the back, even though there isn’t a big illo– just all the cross sell art and instructions, it gives me a lot of vintage vibes.
There are always some interesting fan projects going on over there, but it usually doesn’t involve figures. They produced some items based on the popular audio plays.
This is copying a set in the vintage line so this probably counts to any hardcore completists. According to heogroup's instagram page they have Mattel’s permission to do this.Â
@kraken I think Mattel would have done well to sell some of the He-Man and Skeletor variants in two packs. Hopefully they sell the laser variants in a set.

@smitty-81 That makes sense, but I think it would be nice to get them on individual cards like the vintage ones that 99% of fans never had.

Considering that Mattel has gone to boxed deluxe figures and the laser He-Man and Skeletor figures will be more than a deluxe I don't think we'll be getting carded figures.Â
Â
MOTUC did them as a two pack and I think that was one of the better ideas to come from that era of MOTU.
Maybe they could really sweeten the deal with a 20 page mini comic.Â

2 figure sets can make it pricey… it might save a couple bucks in the long run, but my resistance to buy an item grows when it’s an expensive item, especially on MC.Â
I do think the Laser figures could feel a bit more special if they are separate. But, both has pros and cons, I suppose…
