Fans of 'Masters of the Universe" have been treated to a smorgasbord of comics over the past several years, largely in part thanks to tie-ins to the Netflix Animated Series "Masters of the Universe: Revelation & Revolution". With further episodes of that series seemingly not in production and only one tie-in comic left on the docket (the "Masters of the Universe: Andra" comic coming July 23rd), we have been wondering... what's next? Well according to the post in our community forums from the always awesome superfan and historian @jukka Issakainen, it seems we will be finding out this week. Check…
We have the Power!
There are new Masters of the Universe comics coming from Dark Horse!
More details will be unveiled later this week!
This is so exciting, I can't wait for more news! 😍

Something tied to Revelation and Revolution?

I hope not! Retelling collective canon as a dedicated story would be the easiest win going, you could potentially get fans and newbs really invested like the recent 'Hasbro titles'. The Netflix shows while they obviously did well enough for comics, would be a minnow by comparison because the possibilities are endless with an ongoing saga that wasn't toxic from the beginning. You could do what they've done with Ninja Turtles too, an OG cartoon run, TV/movie version, current comic book run, then spin off into (in our terms) NA and 200x.
All the story potential was written decades ago, it's such a no brainer.
@gatorrob Unfortunately they'll probably want to have one in place running concurrently to support the MOTU x Thundercats line, even though we've already had such a comic...
Sigh.
As a matter of fact, I really enjoyed the 'Golden Age', when DC started publishing their six-issue miniseries in 2012, in which our Masters were basically brainwashed so that Skeletor could rule Eternia in secret. Then came another exciting series, this time focusing on the Evil Horde, which revealed Adora's past. Not to mention the Snakemen, which led to the prelude of the famous 'Eternity War'. I lost interest after the last issue of this series was published. For me, the winning formula was lost.

If I had to guess bro I'd say the retelling of collective cannon will happen but it will surround the new movie.
🇺🇸 SNOUT SPOUT FOR PRESIDENT 🇺🇸
@he-dad They definitely need to think bigger though, especially since they can do multiple iterations AND safeguard against the movie having an adverse effect more widely. MOTU has the best rogues gallery this side of Batman and Spider-Man, you could have a series of books for them alone!
some of my all-time favorite MoTU stories came from the medium of comics!
and even more so than the toys (which i love) nothing gets my motor running quite like NEW he-man story content. i think it's most likely a tie-in four-parter for the upcoming thundercats crossover, following on from the amazing turtles of grayskull series (hopefully, there will be less delays between issues this time 😅)
i suppose it's possible that this could be the sequel to revolution we've all been waiting for, maybe as a monthly ONGOING series instead of the four-issue format that dark horse is more wonted to. how cool would that be? the story of revelation/revolution could continue for years as a comic book.
as a third option, maybe something akin to tiffany's upcoming andra one-shot.
like dark horse is planning to publish a whole series of one-shot adventures, focusing on a different hero or villain from across the MoTU universe. each one with a different creative team. like first it's andra, then after we get a man-at-arms soilder story, or another story about young randor and keldor's childhood days of growing up in the palace, or maybe an orko tale.
the 2012 dc comics started out that way if i recall, with these fun little side stories that give us flesh out the characters in ways that can't be done so much in the more epic main stories, one-shots that build upon the lore.
idk, i think we'd all actually really enjoy something like this; a MoTU antalogy.
I hope these comics are more one-shots focusing on characters in the MOTU Revelation/Revolution continuity. I thought DC Comics did a great job with this concept many years ago and it gives specific characters a time to shine. I would be a bit disappointed in a MOTU /Thundercats crossover because we had that just a few years ago and I know that the continuity would be different but it still seems too soon and would be redundant IMHO.
If we are getting multiple comics, I think one of them will be finishing the Revelation & Revolution storyline we should have got in animated form.
The official news is out!
Was very happy that Dark Horse gave me permission to tease the news in advance!
Brand new 4-issue miniseries "THE SWORD OF FLAWS" from writer Tim Seeley and artist Freddie Williams II
Excellent, this looks very close to what I suggested above!
