So since getting back into Origins collecting, I have a good idea of what figures I desire and ones I'll pass on, mainly all the Snake men stuff, seriously what was up with that?
But I just wanna ask you guys, in you're opinion, what is the worst Origins figure that guys like me should 100% stay away from?
And by that I mean figures that are just horrible in design and/or quality control wise and you regret buying?
@slycooperastroboy51 most Origins figures use the same basic design. But Deluxe Ram-Man is about as fun as a salt shaker, and only good for parts.

Origins is very much "what you see is what you get". You like what you see, you buy it. Most figures have no action feature, so that isn't typically a deciding factor. Quality wise, there are all on par.
Personally, I could have done without the "new" Snakemen characters and the Rulers of the Sun sub line, since neither holds any nostalgic value for me and just felt like "padding".
The rest really is what it is - a bunch of muscle dudes in furry underpants 😉 I would try and get Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain, just because they make for good display options and should be fairly cheap nowadays. Also, Fright Zone is going to be released later this year, so a good opportunity to get three iconic toy playsets onto your shelf.

He-Skeletor was probably the most pathetic. All he needed in new sculpting was a new harness BUT NOPE. Mattel couldn't have been more lazy with that figure. No white paint in the hair even? Gtfo
@smitty-81 have Rammy and think he’s alright. I mean he is staying true to the OG toy with both design and play gimmick if possible without compromising more articulation or at least where they could which is why Origins appeals to me more than Masterverse. That being said Rammy’s CC figure is one of the ones from that sub-line I’m most interested in, but I’m still focusing on standard Origins for a while.
@lasastard recently got Grayskull a few weeks ago. Lives up to its legacy. Dunno about the other two simply due to space and Skull mountain aftermarket prices. The Grayskull I got was reasonably priced on eBay basically at original retail. Snake men is a nah for me. Must’ve been pain to suffer through many waves of purely that sub-line. I got back into collecting these figures at the right time.
as for Sun Rulers, I got Sun Man in a BBTS haul because he was for a GREAT discount. Good figure just to have on his own.
Have I mentioned that I got back into Origins collecting like a month or two ago in part because the BBTS sales were fire? Seriously even if the Speedo Stratos wave killed the normal Origins line in stores, A WHOLE WAVE OF FOUR FIGURES for the price of around one is something any toy collector cannot pass up.
@kraken And that was a Mattel Creations figure to boot - no excuse for that level of laziness. Party Stratos is another unforgivable example - all he needed to be accurate to the early mini comics was a new feather collar and belt, yet they just shat out an infuriatingly lame 100% repaint. At least they eventually sculpted those pieces for New Eternia Masterverse Stratos, but come the fuck on.

He was not a good mini comic's Stratos but he was a good Avion Warrior, as seen in the wave 4 mini comic.

Wait a second now... I love Ram-Man!
I think Mattel did the best with what they were going for. Added articulation and an almost one-to-one recreation of the existing, hollow spring toy.
Which, BTW, I also adore... (Yes, I was the weird kid who actually liked playing with Ram-Man when I got together with friends!)
However, Mattel made one of my longest running dreams come true when they made the Cartoon Collection Rammy!! No joke, he is in my top five favorite Origins figures - no question. As a matter of fact, he stands front and center next to He-Man in my display.

I was hyped for He-Skeletor when he was announced! I have always been a huge fan of the German Audio story featuring Anti-Eternia He-Man, and of course, AE He-Man is another favorite figure of mine... but I never liked the fan representations of a "good Skeletor." They always looked too... weird?
Fast forward to Masters of the Multiverse and BOOM! He-Keldor (or, He-Skeletor) appears, and I absolutely loved his story arc.
Don't get me wrong... I still like the figure, but c'mon, Mattel! All he needed was simple retool of the harness and some better paint apps on his face/hair!

Do you guys think like with standard Origins, they'll make 2.0 improved versions of He-Man and Skeletor for Cartoon Collection? And by that I mean just literally reissue just Faker but with a different accessory instead of his glowing eyes head and Skel maybe a heavy redo?
Yeah it's extremely ironic that the new better more animation accurate He-Man is actually a Faker figure.
Speaking of which, I have just acquired a standard Origins Faker and Man-E-Faces, two figures I've been desiring since my brief first stint with Origins in 2022. Both are great. Always had a fascination with Faker because I just really like his color scheme and also him being a robot copy of He-Man and named Faker....well you probably know a certain franchise I love if you saw a soft debate on this forum recently. I'll say no more.
I'm still becoming more than a MOTU casual fan. Collecting more mostly standard Origins while consuming more of the Filmation series. (Seen 2018 She-Ra, Revelation/Revalution, the three parter pilot to 200x of what I'll eventually continue and put the '87 movie on in the background once)
As far as my current collection goes in terms of Heroic and Evil Warriors, excluding the BUNCH of variants I have and if you count the kitty mount duo, I have 13 Heroic if you count Sun Man (I personally do) and 11 Evil. Also Buzzsaw Hordak. Always felt like from what I have the Heroics outnumber the Evil. Wanting to get more Skelly gang before Astro Roboyo and Fistin'. Are Clawful, Stinkor and Spikor good figures?
@slycooperastroboy51 Maybe when the movie comes out Mattel will offer a redo of He-Man and Skeletor in a two pack? Like you said all they need to do for He-Man is release the Faker figure but this time give him a tan. Skeletor needs more like a new head and more accurate colors.
The Origins line has a lot of potential, but Mattel seems to want to focus on the Vintage Collection and the Cartoon Collection. Also a lot of fans don't seem very receptive to new ideas. The backlash with a Battle for Eternia got is just one example. There are ways they could redo every character, at least two or three times, and not just with variations like battle armor or terror claws, but just redo regular human with slightly different colors or change up the accessories and armor he has.
I think it would be cool if the made an "ultimate" He-Man set with all the He-Man variants armor and weapons. He wouldn't have any of the gimmick but you could dress him up as Thunder Punch or Laser Power, or mix and match. Also all the hands and heads.

It was a disgrace. People at Mattel approved that shit. I wish the collectors would have rejected that lazy figure on principle.

@kraken there's a good chance the design team wanted to tool a new piece but the bean counters said no.

I wonder if there will be a Masterverse version of He-Skeletor... the MV figures seem to have a bigger budget, which is reflected in the price / packaging.
