I mean, in Mattels place, I would have sprinkled in these "new" fan-fic characters a little bit more sparsely and focused on getting the original figures out at a slightly faster pace.
Â
I am not sure it is necessarily a fair assessment to say that Origins stopped selling so they absolutely had to move it to Creations and put out whole new lines to keep things profitable. Figures like Rioblast would surely have sold well at retail, or Stonedar + Rokkon. I don't see these characters as only being viable "online". But I am sure, looking at the sales for the line, things didn't look great. Which is my point - too much focus on weird fan fic characters, or character desings from other MOTU lines instead of keeping it "core".
@lasastard it's not so much a matter of what individual figures would sell, but what line retailers are willing to buy and stock on their shelves. Retail moves incredibly fast, much faster than it did in the 80s when masters of the universe was at its height. Retailers always want something new, that's why other toy companies will change up their product every year. Mattel failed to do that with masters of the universe, but they're doing it now, they switched from Cartoon Collection, and now they're switching to the Evil Horde Cartoon Collection, it's not that they changed anything about the line it's that retailers think it's something new, because it's got a shiny new package. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in 2026, they switched up the packaging again and focused on another part of the MOTU franchise.

So what is everyone thinking - is Mattel actually going to release all the missing vintage characters and vehicles?
If you want vehicles, try eBay

@admin Faker has a new head and boots, but I think we're still looking at renders rather than final product photos.

@smitty-81 Indeed. Anything can change! Also if you look at the bottom left and right sides of the power harness it appears the way it clasps on may be different.
We have the Power!

That's basically true for all things MOTU tho ^^Â
It's actually kinda hard (and somewhat pricey) to get some of the vehicles in "working condition". But that's not the point of Origins anyway.Â
Honestly, my personal biggest want outside of figures is a slightly updated Fright Zone (without a crummy rubber snake puppet). Let's hope we'll get this before the line ends.Â
Â
@lasastard my reading is that if Mattel was ever planned on releasing all of the vintage vehicles in Origins, they would have been more aggressive from the git-go. Still, I've got my wishlist of vehicles I'd love to see...

Good catch on the harness. It kinda looks like it's made like CC Stratos' jetpack.Â
@andy_wan_kenobi we all have our wish list for vehicles. I got a vintage Bashasaurus because I don't think we'll get one from Mattel.Â

Really hope we do get the vehicles because I had most of the figures as a kid but very few vehicles. Plus now I've loads of spare figures crying out for transport!
Said it before, if we ever get sight of a motorised vehicle (or one that's adapted) it'll be safe to assume we're getting the lot because so many of them were motorised.Â
I hope im wrong, but dont think we will ever see motorized vehicles. They couldn’t even bother to get Road Ripper (im not calling it by other name) right. In reality thats what the crowdfunding should be for, not a lair that never existed.
Â
Gonna be really upset if they change a vehicle up and put it in the turtle line, while the vintage/ cartoon line wouldn’t get it.

While it's part of a crowdfunder Eternia's trams gave me a bit of hope. Plus the vintage vehicles can go for a fair bit of money now.

@sketchyskeletor I think it depends on what your looking for I just check ebay for "masters of the universe vehicles" and found a fair few for under $100 US. Even a Mantisaur for about $80

Yeah it's not just that the original vehicles are kinda pricey (well, relatively), but for me part of the appeal of Origins has been to take the original designs and update them. I like what they did with Wind Raider, for example. Very true to the original design, but slightly bigger and beefier. I would hope to see similar updates to any upcoming vehicle releases. The motorization - that's mostly a nice-to-have for me personally, since I don't really play with my MOTU toys.Â
Â
And I agree, if there is any point in all this crowdfunding and Mattel Creations model in general, it would be for this sort of thing. More "niche" items that wouldn't work at retail. Especially if the goal is to complete the vintage line (instead of making up more Snakemen stuff at ludicrous prices).

ÂI know what you mean in general only some of the vehicles really need their gimmick, like I wouldn't care if Spydor didn't move but it's integral to Dragon Walker or even Monstroid.
