@smitty-81 Broadly, yes.

However they do not own the Filmation cartoon library. Some of those designs are jointly developed. They may have to pay a little something to the current co-owner for using them *exactly*. They may skirt the issue by making them just a liiiittle bit different here and there.

It was YouTuber ManChild who speculated about the reasons why most CC Origins are lighter in color, sometimes quite a bit off. His theory was that the colors were protected or there was some slightly iffy area they wanted to simply avoid.

I thought that this was at least in the realm of possibilities.

@cosmic if that were true DC Comics could make a character called Slidor-Man and color him maroon and teal.

Also none of the previously released Filmation character had any other copyright information besides Mattel.

Her face is almost as ugly as the original Origins She-Ra.

I think she looks pretty and will be my first figure I purchase for myself as an adult.

@smitty-81 That’s different. Not saying that color is the ONLY differentiator. But it may be an additional hurdle. Who knows.

Just saying it’s complicated. And usage is a completely different thing from copyright, too.

Not going all conspiracy here. Just giving some benefit of the doubt. That we don’t always know everything.

That said, there is ample time to make things better. CC Teela’s face got a lot better after last year’s SDCC. But then, CC Beast-Man’s color turned out less accurate than the SDCC prototype. So we’ll see… 🤞

@cosmic no toy will ever be 100% accurate to their cartoon appearance, that's impossible. But there's no conspiracy going on here Mattel owns the character and the toys. They worked with Filmation to design characters but the characters always belonged to Mattel. When you talk about the Filmation episodes belonging to someone else it's just that, the episodes not the toy rights or anything else, otherwise the CC figures wouldn't be able to come with episode specific accessories.

@smitty-81 Why wasn’t it possible for Classics to do Filmation style characters from the get go then? For quite a while it was stated Filmation is off-limits.

They own the characters, yes. But it is possible that very specific looks / versions are jointly owned. Or at least, they want to avoid them, so they just avoid any trouble, or cost.

They since figured stuff out obviously. It’s sort of the opposite way round, but think of how Spider-Man film rights are shared between Sony and Disney. Disney owns the character, but there’s more to it.

I mean this is all totally theoretical and I’m no lawyer. Who knows.

I’m not saying Mattel is losing the rights to MOTU or something 😼

@cosmic yeah the She-Ra/ Hordak stuff looks good. Ram-Man is not bad but Man-E-Faces...yikes.

The Snake Lair is just giving me Fisher-Price or Imaginext vibes.  I'm just not feeling it at all for some reason.

@depp76 it's probably because Imaginext has done a similar playset. The whole cobra hood entrance is not very creative.

@smitty-81 MEF bucket head is the shape of the cartoon design, but the size of the vintage toy helmet. This compromise might not be working.

Mostly I think helmet’s too tall, b/c they incorporated the knob as part of the helmet itself. Ideally though, they should shrink the whole head.

But I’m mostly watching those from the sidelines anyways, trying, like you, to only get one per line, tops. Which, still adds up 😅

I am very happy for Filmation fans though, and for PoP fans.

I’m getting Remco vibes from the Snake Lair.

Or imagining little plastic knight figures around it, in a catalogue ad that only ran once.

In that sense, it does have some retro vibes 😆

The entrance in the concepts might have looked too similar to GI Joe Cobra stuff? (Ducks) I know nothing about Joes.

@cosmic yeah it's like I said no cartoon design can be 100% accurate when made into a toy, especially someone like Man-E-Faces. I just feel like they could have done better. He almost looks like the figure they were designing on friday at 4:30 PM and the deadline was Monday at 9:30 AM.

No you're right the cobra hood doorway is very G.I. Joe. And with how big the whole thing is I could see Joe fans getting it to use for their figures. And honestly I wouldn't be mad if they helped get it funded do Mattel will see this as a success and give us a Fright Zone with slime pit.

@smitty-81 Synergy!

Would be funny and awesome if it would indeed be the Joes fans who help put it over the edge! Joes to the rescue! Or Cobra, that is 😅

It's weirdly frustrating.

Hordak looks good, but he's not exactly a hard figure to pull off. Vultak and Mantena look good...

...but the girls. The girls do not. I really hope you guys are right and they improve them.

She-Ra - once again - is cursed with a plastic skirt that will make it weird for her to sit on Swiftwind. And a plastic cape!

Why? The WWE female figure (Chyna?) got a fabric cape...and she didn't even have a mount to ride requiring one!

As has been said, Catra's panther form looks small enough to be her pet kitty cat.

And their faces....man.

CC Teela looked terrific in the face. And her silhouette was great too. These two POP gals look boxy and have such bootleg/bland faces. Why would there be such a noticable difference??

....the POP gals always get the short end of the stick.

I am happy they aren't being completely overlooked. I am happy that POP is finally in the game.

But this...isn't the way I thought they'd come out.

Club Grayskull MEF was on point. I was really hoping the new CC would replicate that look, but it's way off. Garbage.

@durendal he had the advantage of being bigger and probably a less restrictive budget. I wouldn't call CC Manuel "garbage" he's just trying to turn a 2-D drawing into a 3-D action figure with a gimmick contained entirely in his head.

So I'm not alone in the Man-e-faces sad camp. I hope Mattel reads these threads and will fix him.

@samuel you’re not alone. I’m not really a fan of how Ram man turned out either. The rest I think looked great

@brasco @samuel I'm not a fan of Manual, at all. I always thought his cartoon designee was always goofy looking. I'm hoping he'll be in the same wave as Ram-Man, who I think looks alright. I like that he's got knees and muscular definition in his arms. The only complaint I have for Ram-Man is how flat and dull he looks, but that's normal the CC figures.
