@firmpulse Thanks. I hope Mattel reveals what they are doing soon. They got me real curious.
@samuel and @firmpulse To my knowledge the Thundercats crossover with MOTU will be similar to the Turtles of Grayskull line and be using the Origins bucks and have a similar price point. The stuff Mondo is doing is completely separate from it. I do find it funny that both Thundercats and TMNT 1/6 scale are coming from Mondo now too though. Probably as a result of the Funko acquisition and due to how much the MOTU line exploded. I would say that the TMNT line will go farther than Thunder Cats though since TMNT has a long toyline history and dedicated following.Â
Deluxe Faker came today. Great looking figure. The blue is perfect, and of course the heads blow away the first release. The damaged armor is really cool.
Â
cant wait to get buzzoff, but worried that they extened the sale for a long time, to finally get a number they were happy with.

I also just got mine in the mail a week ago and he's pretty sweet. I'm happy I decided to purchase him.Â

Regarding the extension of the Buzz-Off sale they did mention during the Toy Talk that the response on Buzz-Off has blown them away. And on their Instagram comments page they replied to a comment saying that they only extended it because it was selling poorly, but they assured the user that the reason they wanted to extend the sale was due to feedback from fans needing more time to allocate funds during the holidays to give the most amount of people possible a chance to pick them up.

Obviously, only Mondo knows how well the figures are selling, but I'd argue that there wouldn't be much of a reason to lie about the figures selling well. Just because product is moving and popular that isn't much incentive for people on the fence to buy the product. Additionally, if the figures were selling poorly I don't see why they'd lie and say the opposite. The fact that the line is expanding and they released more MOTU than ever this year makes me believe that it is probably growing in popularity rather than contracting. All speculation on my part of course, but I think they're reasonable assumptions to make.Â

@smokinya they got my money but I say the opposite. mondo is owned by funko which is public and has stock trading every day. no way they gonna be on the record with that. pr department controls the sales figures they lay out especially the bad news
@skeledog fair enough, but I still think the line is selling and progressing well. Most of the time (when looking at other companies) if sales are down they simply remain silent rather than lying and saying that things are still going well. Silence is usually the de facto when it comes to this stuff because if it is revealed that the company was lying about the sales numbers it would end up being much worse for the organization and their stock price.
On top of that they're progressing into other 1/6th scale lines with Thunder Cats, TMNT, Gargoyles, Spider-Man and Yu Gi Oh! which I think is a direct result of the success of the MOTU, X-Men and Batman lines. Plus we also have the expansion of the MOTU product to 200x this year. Furthermore, all of the exclusive MOTU releases like Faker and Anti-Eternia BC all sold out within a day. I was particularly surprised about Anti-Eternia BC selling out so quickly because I honestly thought it was going to tank hard, especially at 500 units. I'm happy it didn't though. As we've seen before repaints and variant figures can kill a line pretty quickly (200x).
So far the only mistakes seem to be involving the Scare Glow Soft Vinyl figure and Teela. They made too many variants of the soft vinyl Scare Glow. The Classic variant is still for sale on their site and likely will be for months. I think 4 variants was way too much considering the size and the price of the figure. Regarding Teela we have a few different options. She either sold so well that they thought they could double dip on a regular edition like He-Man and Skeletor or I that they ended up making too many of them. Potentially they could've had too many left over bodies as well due to the original QC issues of the figure had with the head and joints. So they decided to make some more heads and try to sell a regular edition to recoup some costs.Â
Either way I hope the line continues to progress for a long while. I love the Mondo renditions of the figures and other than the Tweeterhead maquettes there isn't much else involving MOTU that has caught my eye since Classics ended.Â
@smokinya & @skeledog, Could the Secondary Market give any insight into Line Strength? If things are moving well at FAIR but, acceptably increased prices (not first week initial extortion and FOMO pricing) that could let us know a lot. But, if there are a thousand copies sitting there for weeks at a time then it stands to reason success is minor or nonexistent. I'm just spittballing here.
@skeledog @firmpulse that's an interesting idea. I decided to take a look at eBay to see how things are rolling. It seems like He-Man and Skeletor are a dime a dozen online. However, they've also had regular edition, timed edition and multiple variant's including the OG ones. Surprisingly, Hordak also has like 56 listings on eBay as well with barely any mark up. Note that it is hard to narrow down the exact amount of figures because sometimes eBay will give you other results. So you're looking at She-Ra but then you also get hits for other figures too.Â
That being said Mer-Man, Beast Man, Trap Jaw, Orko and Teela all have less than 30 hits (with Orko and Trap-Jaw having the most). Mer-Man only has 8. A majority of the Fakers up for sale are also the old version rather than the most recent one. Regular Man At Arms only has one listing on eBay as well. Finally, Buzz-Off has zero listings on eBay, which is strange because usually they have pre-sales listed on some of the figures once they're off pre-order (for reference Classics Ram Man has 82 listings right now)
So what does this all mean? Its kind of hard to tell. In some ways less eBay listings makes sense. The figures have a pre-order window of 10 days on average so its safe to say that for the most part anyone who wants a figure is getting one. These figures are already a niche in a smaller collecting community. Maybe a few miss out here and there, but overall it seems like the secondary market is smaller on a majority of the line. Which means scalpers either aren't buying as much or they're being bought up by fans and there's nothing left to sell. Only the main characters seem to have tons of listings (above 50), which is typical for MOTU. Skeletor and He-Man always sell well. That's why they have so many variants in the first place.Â
I think the fact that Mondo has expanded into Soft Vinyl MOTU as well as the 200x line is a good sign as it indicates MOTU is a popular, money making brand for them. Otherwise why keep making even more MOTU product? Looking at the 1/6 scale line we've gotten 3 mounts and a vehicle so far and the production and speed of figure releases has ramped up. I'd say those are all good signs. Mounts and vehicles are an expensive gamble for ANY toyline even at retail prices. Given the fact that Mondo was turning a profit when selling figures in batches of 1000 I would think that they'd be turning a profit now because they have a guaranteed number of sales and I find it hard to believe someone willing to buy a $300 Mer-Man wouldn't also buy/want a $300 Buzz-Off. Some characters will obviously sell less than others, but I think a majority of MOTU fans that collect want all the "main" characters. A 1/6 scale Geldor might not sell well, but a 1/6 Whiplash or Clawful are no brainers in my opinion.Â
