@depp76 You say the continued improvements of some of the Masterverse figures might surpass some of those in the Classics line? It's already happened.

@he-dad I can't see anyone arguing with the New Eternia Snout Spout not being better than the Classics. Mattel knocked that one out of the park. I hope they do the same with the Horde Trooper.

Nerd that I am, the question of which Masterverse figures are better than Classics has been on my mind quite a bit. I think there are quite a few, actually. Now don't get me wrong, I collected Classics back in the day and absolutely loved them. It was one of the great action figure lines ever. But for what it's worth, here are my thoughts on the subject:

As a general thing, I greatly prefer the leaner look of the Masterverse line to the rather silly bodily proportions of Classics and the original line. Hugely subjective, I know, and not really a criticism of Classics (after all, that IS what the original toys looked like), but there you are.

He-Man: It seems an unpopular position, but like AJ I actually really like the Revelation He-Man. I haven't watched Revelation, and I'm not sure I will (too many odd bits for me), but our favorite hero's face is spot on for how I picture him; he looks young (about 17-18?), eager, friendly, brave and maybe a little naive. Really great.

Skeletor: The Horde Skeletor, with its nod to the 2000x Mike Young series, is also really good, as good as any of the Classics figures. With purple, black and red, what's not to like?

Snout Spout: Totally agree with what was said above. The Classics SS was a good figure, but the Masterverse is great, far better in my opinion.

Tri-Klops: Again, the earlier iteration was a solid figure, but the Masterverse New Eternia is just so much better. The added eye band is cool, but the clincher is that curling bully's lip and general expression!

Two-Bad: Masterverse definitely takes the palm here.

Buzz-Off: The Masterverse version is a fantastic figure, better even than the very good Classics rendition.

Stratos: I've always loved Stratos. Unfortunately for me, I don't have the Masterverse figure (the prices on the secondary market are just too damn high), but he is several notches above the Classics version. Mattel absolutely nailed this guy.

Stinkor: Another case where the Classics was really good but the Masterverse is better. I love the extra "sleepy-eyed" head!

Slush Head: And yet another case.

Faker: As I already love the Revelations He-Man, I find the Revelations Faker is just about perfect also. I love the blue silver of his robot body, the yellow orange of his harness, and those burning red eyes! (If I were to go with the more traditional blue Faker, I do think the Classics is a little better here.)

Man-At-Arms: This one is really close. The Classics MAA was a masterpiece. That said, the Revelations version, if a slightly different look, is also really, really good.

Clawful: This one is a cheat, so probably doesn't count, but I'll include him anyway. You see, Clawful for me definitely has that Muppet head (which I know many fans dislike), so what I did is to pop an Origins Muppet head on the Masterverse body and voila, a magnificent Clawful - especially with that new back carapace thing.

Honorable Mentions:

Battle Cat: Have to admit, the Classics version was probably slightly better, both in sculpt and color, but I have to say I also love the Masterverse version. The bigger size also adds to his awesomeness.

Beast Man: The Classics version was just superb. The New Eternia figure, however, is pretty darned close; it's just that his head sculpt is quite as good as the Classics.

Evil-Lyn: If the Masterverse figure was in her more traditional skirt I might prefer it, but as she's not...

Anyway, there are some thoughts. I think the Masterverse line is definitely going toe-to-toe with Classics in almost every case!

New Adventures Skeletor is another. AJ did a funny side by side comparison and it's hilarious how jacked the Classics figure is.

Nice to see a lot of love for MV versions!

I may even add Clamp Champ to that list, perhaps because I just got him yesterday 😊

Choosing between the two versions, it wasn’t just the price that made me decide for MV (Classics CC is relatively affordable if you search); the colors are fresher and “newer”, and here’s once again the case that I love the Classics “naked” upper body, but once there is a shell armor, I prefer MV. (Ya know, the whole “puffiness” w shorter arms of Classics). His armor is really nice, with interesting slight redesign.

That he has to put half his arm inside the clamp is a bit funny, but for once it doesn’t fall out his hand.

Surprised that no one has posted about getting a processing soon email from BBTS for the Skeletor and throne.  Got mine earlier today.

After two Masterverse packaging artwork teases, will KING HISS finally slither out of the shadows and reveal himself in "New Eternia" plastic form (perhaps at this month's San Diego Comic-Con?) 🐍🤞

Yes I did! I will post my review below, but if you rather have just a brief summary, I love the Bone Throne... but I only loved the Skeletor after some customization. 🙂
