Toy sales and Netflix revenue may play into it, in Mattel case I suspect they wanna gain more on toy sales. I do currently suspect the the new She-Ra may cost them more licence wise than the 80s ones, so Mattel obviously want classic She-ra to appear...@catra The problem is always money and not wanting other companies to have a piece of that pie.

Exactly. Especially with Revelations / Revolution set up as a "continuation of the 1980s series" (even though most agree it's more of an AU).

I would agree money comes into play here. She-Ra is title character, worthy of headlining her own series. To loan her off as a co-star not only would cost Netflix a hefty portion of the viewer revenue, but the question would have to be sold to Dreamworks as to why to do it. Why hand her over to Netflix when they can do their own cartoon again with her as star (or in live-action) and not risk diluting the character.
I think we would need a Sony Spider-Man situation here, where there was mutual benefit. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was poorly received by audiences and box-office, and Sony was hurting, and the MCU was the strongest franchise in history at the time. The mutual benefit came from Sony giving the most popular Marvel comic character Spider-Man to Disney to use in their movies... and Disney giving Sony characters from the MCU like Nick Fury, Doctor Strange and the biggest being Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man to use in theirs (plus MCU head Kevin Feige producing the Spidey films).
So perhaps if the conditions were right, and Mattel Television gives Dreamworks use of He-Man and Dreamworks gives Mattel use of She-Ra...

Well it does not really look like DreamWorks was ok with it, if they were I bet She-Ra would have been in it! Legally speaking this cannot be the sequal to the 80s show unless DreamWorks approves of it as such. We can even see that in the wording used by Kevin Smith multiple times? Another red flag is that it looks like this is a timeline where He-Man(Adam) never meet She-Ra(Adora), if that is so we can safely take it as a alternate timeline that is very true to the 80s one and also a potential "What if She-Ra never happened" which is still cool to me! Speaking of what if the new SPOP is in my eyes the "what if the Horde won against Eternia" timeline. 😉Toy sales and Netflix revenue may play into it, in Mattel case I suspect they wanna gain more on toy sales. You have a point there. I doubt it would happen, but maybe Mattel could lend Dreamworks He-Man so they could add him to their She-Ra series. Then Dreamworks lends She-Ra to Mattel for their stuff.

Some of the press releases describe it as such (as a follow-up). Although, those were pretty early releases.
I agree with you on the alternate timeline thing. It's one of the reasons many of the fans (like me) consider it an AU. Either way, we won't know for sure until they release more info.

I feel like this would be the most accurate chart of the MOTU multiverse in animation.

@catra that's it, except one little thing:
Mattel Television, the producers of Revelation, does not have rights to the 2002 adaption of He-Man so any plot details or character presentations from that series couldn't be incorporated into this story.
He-Man 2002 is technically owned by "Mike Young Productions."

Here's an article detailing how Filmation Motu and Revelation lore is connected: 🙂

Which is why since they do not own either the 200X or Filmation show the solution was to mash them into one, plus @admin has a good post about it.@catra that's it, except one little thing:

With what we saw with Revelation, it appears Mattel has the ability to be a "spiritual" sequel to any series if they so choose. 🙂

I never heard spiritual sequels before until revelation. Its krazy that you can do that and not get sued
They did probably talk with DreamWorks prior to making it, DreamWorks was in talks with Mattel when making She-Ra after all. A few things I remember the creators of She-Ra said was they could not have Castle Gray Skull & no planet Eternia! That is the only 2 things I am aware they cannot use, which makes me think those who have hopes for the live-action She-Ra to be more 80s might be extremely disappointed? 🤔I never heard spiritual sequels before until revelation. You are saying Dreamworks could of still got paid. Could be could be. I dont think She-Ra amazon will be like either show but a brand new take and no hardcore fan is gonna be happy

Ain't that the truth. I'll still give it a watch (just in case).

The New Adventures of She-Ra.
😆
🇺🇸 SNOUT SPOUT FOR PRESIDENT 🇺🇸
I think Dreamworks may just barely have enough of the IP to do that, the problem is the characters based on Mattel toys they may not be usable unless they make a deal with Mattel. The New Adventures of She-Ra.
😆
Personally I would love to see it as a spin-off to SPOP where 2 or more of the characters gets sent to the tri-solar galaxy. (time travel may not be needed tough it would make it a one way trip, also limits who else can show up.)

I guess there's nothing stopping them doing a deep departure new incarnation. Like Adora is a High School Senior in New Jersey. When a new student transfers to her school named Catrina, nothing can prepare Adora for the..... 🙂

For all we know that could be the live action version, Catra could go by the 80s name Elizabeth and go under the super villain name of Catra working for the evil aliens from the Horde? The Princesses could also be from space and try to stop the evil Horde from taking Earth? Would be interesting to see how Adora(She-Ra) & Elizabeth(Catra) finds out the other works for the other side. 😱I think Dreamworks may just barely have enough of the IP to do that, the problem is the characters based on Mattel toys they may not be usable unless they make a deal with Mattel. The New Adventures of She-Ra.
