Hey fellas, BIG NEWS. Short story: If you have the capabilities, I'd create a back-up of all episodes of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018-2020) if you can. Signs are pointing to it leaving Netflix as early as 2026.

Longer story indicative of something more? Well, it was announced just today that Voltron: Legendary Defender will be leaving the platform next month. This is due to rights issues. Dreamworks Animation Television is leaving Netflix as the months go on. Voltron was a a Netflix exclusive made under Dreamworks Television, and guess what? ND's reboot of She-Ra is too! So if this is happening to Voltron, all signs point to the idea that She-Ra won't be on the streaming service soon if things keep going in this direction. Yes, not even EXCLUSIVE SERIES are safe on the streaming platform they are made from. A very preposterous and scary idea, I know...
Â
She-Ra only had its first two seasons released on DVD. The last two were never given proper physical releases. This also relates to more horror stories regarding a new rise in what can be described as lost media due to expiring contracts and corporate greed erasing animated series even if there are no places to see them. Infinity Train was most likely the most infamous. A critically acclaimed animated series, which kasted for four seasons and was tragically cut short due to reasons that are still debated to this day. Not only was the show pulled from HBO Max in August of 2022, but the show was also removed from all digital purchasing platforms in October of 2023. Meaning, should you want to see Infinity Train now, you can't see it by legal means. No physical copies of the show were ever released, keep in mind.
Â
I want to emphasize that this can happen to just about any show we love that is specifically only available on streaming and is either not available in its entirey, ot just not available AT ALL on physical media. Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Revoluton are a main point of discussion on these forums, and Owl House is brought up here from time to time by several users. I'd say back up those series too as you never know if they may meet the same fate as Voltron or Infinity Train. And if there's anything I want everybody to take away from all this, it's three big points.
Â
1. Remember that a streaming-only service would be a nightmare for the idea of media preservation. We should always have an option. So we can see media regardless of whether or not we have an internet connection, or if we want to create back-ups of them if need be.
Â
2. Corporate greed and a desire to use financial tricks in order to get tax write-offs can easily create a new age of lost media. This doesn't just relate to streaming. Think of the news you've heard in recent years where movies that were basically finished were somehow cancelled and never released due to a desire for companies to use them as tax write-offs.
Â
3. Don't feel guilty if you need to create back-up copies if you paid for the product already or the product is impossible for purchase on the market to begin with. One should never feel guilty about backing up stuff they already paid money for or just can't get a physical copy of to begin with.

Dreamworks has been putting a lot of their animation on Peacock so maybe She-Ra will land there.
