Rewatching Revolution today inspired me to share my crackpot fan theories with all you fine people. Spoilers ahead!

In the Hordak stabbing scene, Skeletor flashes between Skeletek, adult Keldor, and child Keldor, while Hordak himself has a flash-over of King Miro. The first time I saw this scene, I thought “Cool cool, Skeletor is metaphorically stabbing all the father figures of his life who had betrayed and failed him. Nice.” Second time, I thought “I wonder if Skeletor really did take revenge upon Miro, and this is a flashback of his past. As far as I know, we don’t really know what happened to King Miro in this continuity, do we? Maybe Keldor also killed his real father sometime in the past and forgot that fact along with his own identity.

This time watching that same scene, I thought, “Wait, could Hordak actually be King Miro himself?” I know he has his speech about how he’s been out conquering for untold eons, spreading the Horde across the galaxy like a virus and all that,  it what if this backstory is only partly true, and perhaps even Hordak himself doesn’t fully realize it? What if King Miro was captured and assimilated by Horde Prime into Hordak, and the knowledge that was Miro’s about the Eternian Royal Family secrets was what spurned Hordak to find Keldor on Anwat Gar? Was Hordak training his own son, and kidnapping his own granddaughter? It would recontextualize the earlier scenes where Hordak speaks of the horrors wrought by family, and Skeletor cringes at Motherboard telling him he’s honored his mother and father.

Which brings me to subject two: is Motherboard Keldor’s real mother? Saryn was mentioned in Keldor’s backstory to Adam, but I think that’s all we know of her so far.  Instead of a creepy cave witch, could she have become a cyber-goddess befitting of the Gar’s historic technological prowess? Perhaps she even felt pride for her son when he was crowned king of Eternos, even though it would quickly give way to her toxic brand of parenting once he displeased and embarassed her in front of her lord (and once lover?)

If both of these are true, then Skeletor not only killed his own nephew, but also beheaded his mother and impaled his father. Which brings us to crackpot theory 3, that Skeletor’s impressive list of sins will one day earn him the throne of Hell. I’m sure everybody here knows of the “Evil Ghost of Skeletor” original description for Scare Glow, and this series could be the first to take that quite literally. In Revelation’s introduction of the character where Teela confuses him for Skeletor and he cryptically quips that he remembers that name, as if it were something of his past. Scare Glow calls himself lord of destruction, which is also Skeletor’s title for himself. In Keldor’s memories, Hordak says the Havok staff was waiting for someone who was born to wield its power. From what we know of Havok as the god of death in Eternian mythology (truthology?) it is implied that Skeletor is destined for some manner of power over death itself (which is a theme of his prequel comic backstory too, though now shown to be fiction). Skeletor swayed power over the flow of souls as Skelegod and Skeletitan, but that level of power seems only to be temporary as it disturbs the cosmic balance. Will Skeletor’s great reward as death’s champion be an eternity of ruling over the souls of the damned?

If I’ve made any mistakes or if more information on Netflix’s Miro and Saryn can be found in other places like interviews or tie in comics, please do let me know! I’m not really a huge fan of “this character is secretly another character” or “every important person in the universe is secretly related” story tropes, so I won’t feel too bad if these are disproven. The possibilities have simply captured my imagination of late. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks for reading!
