If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will fail above everyone else's success. -James Cameron
Basically people are spending less on toys bc everything else is so expensive. Doing with things they can live without. Personally I can live without the other things. We went to take my 3 kids plus me and my wife bowling and they wanted $225 for an hour and a half. NOPE, not happening.
I get that, but I also think video games and social media are big factors. People, and kids in particular, only have so much discretionary time on their hands and I think video games and social media takes up much of the time and energy that used to go into toys. Very sad because I think toys and their play patterns were much more creative than video games and social media. 🙁
I don't care anymore. Toy collecting has become nothing but constant disappointment & massive frustration. If the entire toy industry collapsed it would be a relief. MOTU Origins & Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron have been a total nightmare to collect. And my main line Transformers has turned to shit. So let it all go bye bye, I could use the break.
I'm so sorry to hear that, sci. But I empathize. Something tells me you were once a joyous collector and user of toys. It's sad that it has come to this. Do you think there's anything that could create an atmosphere in which there's a true revival?

I'm focusing on my customs. I have a trillion projects I've been working on & I need to get them done. So I'm planning on finishing up the Origins Vintage Collection & then I want to take a break.
Unfortunate sign of the times. Kinda wish Mattel would look into doing proper video games (especially for us older fans).

I wholeheartedly agree. With their fanbase and iconic franchises, one would think it would be a logical step for them to create video games based on many of them.
Hasbro still has a lot of those windowless versions of toys out there currently which are not MOC collector friendly. They really hurt their collector market. Plus, I think kids are less likely to buy what they can't see as well. Picture art only just doesn't work.
Given what you say being pretty obviously true, what do you think would motivate them to do that?

In this economy everything is nuts. I still can't get past the fact that the going rate for a new standard mass retail action figure is $25. This isn't some fancy Marvel Select/DC Direct thing.
They said it was to help the environment, but they obviously did it to save money on packaging, too. It hurt sales enough that they are going back to windows, but it takes awhile to cycle out.Given what you say being pretty obviously true, what do you think would motivate them to do that?
