There sales are down from last year, along with many other companies. The Barbie movie helped them a little bit…..I find myself buying less than I did a year ago with price increase across the board. Also aren’t they like over 2 billon in debt?
the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Executive VP & Chief People Officer, Amanda Thompson, sold US$958k worth of shares at a price of US$21.30 per share.Â
WTF! She sold almost 1 million dollars in shares. So this is how the 1% lives. I can be a Chief People Officer dammit! I kinda already do that here!

Might be another reason they're trying to resurrect the cancelled Netflix film as a theatrical release.

Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting."

You mean to make more money? I wonder what they made from Barbie. Like what was their cut.

Is Mattel so desperate for money that they are selling movie scripts?

@elder Good on them for cashing out while the Barbie movie is still relevant. A revenue stream is still a revenue stream.
Available in print for the first time, the BARBIE screenplay features an exclusive introduction by Gerwig and Baumbach and eight pages of full-color photos from the film.
A release like this would be worthy with the inclusion of storyboards, costume designs, and concept art mate. Instead it appears buyers are treated to eight pages of essentially screen grabs from the film.

@elder Totally agree with you. But when Faber comes to you with a licensing check, do you refuse it? Especially in the shape they are in?Â
Â
And I'm sure they'll put out a deluxe art/script/movie book at some point. This is a quick thing to get to market.Â
@hachiman I am curious how well this will sell among the Barbie fandom. It has been my observation that Barbie geekery is much different than say typical science fiction fare. I have chums who played with the dolls and ran to see the movie in cinema. Would they be interested in reading a script likely curtailed to match the final cut of the movie?

@elder No clue. But the US release date is the day after Christmas, so they totally missed the boat on it as a gift. But if the deal was that Mattel/WB get their money as and advance, it's the publisher's problem to move all those books.
@hachiman From the very little bit I know mate all the fees are paid to the licensee on print runs so this would factor towards Mattel’s 2023 revenue not counting additional printings.
