Well, friends, I'm sure you're aware of the planned MOTU movie, and it's recently announced 1987, er, 2016 release date.
I wrote a lengthy treatment in the hopes people see the potential for what a filmed MOTU experience can be.
Based on the iconic toyline, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is an epic fantasy trilogy equivalent to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, about the strain war has on love and family...
Enjoy:

Let me tell you what is not going to happen: a Masters of the Universe film trilogy in which He-Man does not appear until the second film.
@adam_prince-of-eternia Thanks for reading. I think if you're honest with the public, they'll know what they're in for, and go on that journey with you. For example, the title being "Masters of the Universe," not "He-Man." Everyone's so plugged in now, they'll know what you have planned, so release the titles ahead of time. Engage fans with the filmmaking process and progress. If you tell the public upfront, this is Skeletor's story, establishing why He-Man will be necessary in the second; this is the Sorceress and Man-At-Arms' story, which impacts He-Man and Teela's views and relationship later; this is the Horde invasion, and the Snake Men cast down, world building for the events in the second and third chapters, I think people would go for it. My hope for the article is that it showcases the scope of the world, and it's potential, beyond just our beloved hero's coming of age story.

I liked it! It is a little too dark for me. Masters of the Universe Revolution has the tone I want but I liked it.

@gatorrob Thank you! I enjoyed Revolution, as well. You could tell they loved MOTU.

If the first film in a planned Masters of the Universe trilogy does not feature He-Man as the protagonist, there will be no sequels. General audiences are definitely not "plugged-in." They are going to recognize the title, and be frustrated that He-Man is not in it. And Masters of the Universe fans are similarly going to balk at the idea. At minimum, audiences want He-Man, Skeletor, Castle Grayskull, and "I Have the Power." If those four elements are not in the film, it will not be successful.

@adam_prince-of-eternia Well, they can pull a Lucas and do the middle part first 🙂

Look how that worked out for the prequels.

@adam_prince-of-eternia LOL! Again, the purpose of the article was to get it out there that there is more potential to a live-action MOTU than just He-Man goes to a high school prom. No worries if you don't like my take.
I'm interested in what you and others would do, if given the keys. Would you guys make a series, like Game of Thrones? A film trilogy?
There's so much more to MOTU than what Hollywood seems willing to see. It's come to the point we fans need to show it them.
The vitriol and outrage over the lack of He-Man in the first half of Revelation is the proof in the pudding that such a concept does not fly with audiences.
I have no faith in modern Hollywood. They are F***in clueless! And 9 times out of 10 they toss the source material into the trash. They would have to make MOTU the same way as Peter Jackson made the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Long, detailed & epic. Never gonna happen. And they'll probably kill most of the characters like they did in Revelation/Revolution.Â
A MOTU trilogy would absolutely rock!

@michaelholloway It would, Mikey! There's enough pieces there for a Lord of the Rings or Dune extravaganza.

I want them to stay far away from this trilogy idea. There is no guarantee of success and there is nothing that would frustrate me more than a financially unsuccessfully movie that has no conclusion.

Now that would be a treat! I would love to see a dark and gloomy epic not suitable for children. I still bork at the thought of the movie following the tried and failed Earth idea. Why not take cue from the New Eternia premise of a shattered dimension? Imagine the possibilities over three films to expand the MOTU world...

The trilogy idea is so cool but at the same time I agree with you. A unfinished cliffhanger would suck so hard.

If you can wait 10 years, you'll be able to type in dark and gloomy He-Man epic not suitable for children into an AI and it will spit out a full length movie for you to watch.

They need to make the first movie stand-alone, then expand into a trilogy. It mostly worked for Star Wars.

See the 2015 live action Jem film for an example. Chu thought it would be easy for a microbudget film to perform well, so that a sequel could be greenlit with a higher budget, in which he could introduce the sci-fi elements of the series, i.e. the microprojector earrings and holograms. The film did not have the elements audiences expected, it tanked, and was removed from theaters after two weeks, and all plans for a sequel were scrapped.Â
A Masters of the Universe film needs to be self-contained, and the filmmaker needs to tell the story they want to tell in one film. If it performs well, other self-contained sequels can follow. But success is guaranteed to no one, and telling a story in three parts is a surefire way to have an incomplete story.

Right now I don't want any movies made. Hollywood is far too gone. I have an editor friend out of work due to Hollywood greed. It used to be about making movies now it's about making cash. The problem with studios is they people running them are all about making money and not good films. We churn out remakes, reboots, soft reboots, sequels till there is no tomorrow. They don't take the time to write a good story anymore either, and rely on special effects. Now with that said a trilogy is possible if done right. By that I mean the individual movies should stand as a story like said before. I also want to say something really controversial to any fan base really. WE expect too much. We want what we know and when we don't get it right away we complain like no tomorrow. If this movie does get off the ground I think we need to judge it not on what has come before but for what it is now.
