@ornclown Yup, fully expecting that! Mattel didn't even have the excuse when they dumped figures everywhere but their own website... say what you like about Hasbro, they tend to put retail exclusives on Pulse!
@sketchyskeletor You are probably right. However, I must admit that I was thrilled when I finally discovered the listing for the brand new Masterverse wave, which includes Randor, Beast Man, and Roboto. Given that the international shipping price was unbeatable, it was an obvious choice for me, and I was more than fed up with checking out the BBTS site, which is known for being a latecomer most of the time.
So in case y'all aren't aware BigBadToyStore is holding a great sale for both Masterverse Origins figures. Some good selections 20% off. A lot of $20 Origins figures are currently $15.19 and were already in stock so no tariff worries. The sale ends on the 23rd, this friday, so I highly suggest you check it out.
I just ordered (Normal) Clawful and two Horde Troopers. You guys think those were good picks?
In my current collection excluding variants, the good guys outnumber the baddies by a few and I think with these purchases the counts will be even.
Was considering getting Randor but his design, me already having enough heroes and him just having a staff as an accessory. Look, I know they wanna be true to the original toy, but he's a KING. I think they should've at least included like a standard sword to have him fight with.
I know people joke Rand is Burger King and yeah he looks exactly like him, but really he reminds me of The King from the infamously bad and famously memed Legend of Zelda CD-I games Nintendo understandably hasn't and will never acknowledge the existence of. They would rather make an HD remaster of Chibi-Robo Zip Lash.
Unlucky for them that the internet exists. Anyone remember the absolute relics of early Youtube known as Youtube Poop?
I heard someone say they think Mattel’s Filmation license runs out this year which means Mattel can't make Cartoon Collection figures anymore. I hope that isn't true.

was that someone a ToyGuru…???
I call BS on that. There are no TMs or copyrights on any of the Cartoon Collection figures or packaging outside of Mattel.
@samuel Okay I'm really confused on MOTU franchise toon rights. Mattel owns all of the characters, so they can put She-Ra and her squad in anything with He-Man that's not a cartoon and can put Hordak and Co. in any show because THEY created them for the original MOTU. Hordak was meant to be He-Man's new nemesis after Skeletor and She-Ra and her squad was an idea thought up by Filmation, so eventually when Filmation went bankrupt and Universal/Dreamworks bought their assets, the She-Ra cartoon rights were among them thus the 2018 series and Mattel let them have the Horde be in it because how would it be She-Ra without it? That being said it's odd that even with no He-Man presence, Adora still says "For the Honor of Grayskull". Like what is Grayskull in that universe if they can't show it?
But does Mattel own the OG He-Man filmation toon or Dreamworks? They don't mention copyright info for them nor Universal on CC figures packaging, even the She-Ra related ones I'm sure.
This is all from my understanding from what I read. Am I wrong on any of this?
1. I hope for a MOTU cartoon that can from the start co-star both of the twins. That may or may not happen anytime soon, a man can dream.
2. I'm confused AF about all of this.
@slycooperastroboy51 Mattel owns MOTU, all of MOTU. There are no copyright notes on CC figures except for Mattel's, that includes the packaging, and mini comics.

@slycooperastroboy51 It has been discussed to death here mate so I can lay it out for you. Dreamworks holds the rights to the He-Man and She-Ra Filmation shows. Dreamworks holds the rights to make new She-Ra shows. Mattel owns the rights to make toys however making toys that look like the Filmation characters rests in a legal grey area.

That gray area is the way I understand it too and this time with the Cartoon Collection Mattel did a deal with Dreamworks. That is why people at Mattel could say the word Filmation at comic con and make the cc logo look like Filmation's logo with no legal troubles.

Ok I'm going to say it again. Mattel is the only copyright on the CC figures, packaging and mini comics. This is not true for Rulers of the Sun, Turtles of Grayskull or VeeFriends.

@he-dad I knew about the whole "She-Ra can't appear in new He-Man shows currently because Universal/Dreamworks but Hordak can" but I was confused when @Samuel said the license to make Filmation figures was about to expire, but I think I have the whole thing clarified now.
I'm really curious of how they'll incorporate She-Ra elements into the upcoming movie. We know from set leaks that Bow and I think Frosta(?) cameo by appearing on a ruined mural. We've heard literally nothing for a long time about that She-Ra Amazon Prime show, but I'm betting by now that's somewhat cancelled. Eh it probably would've been terrible.
I say somewhat because the movie is being made by the recently merged Amazon MGM, which with all this evidence in mind, it's likely Amazon owns the Live-action film rights to everyone and the mural cameos will be a setup for Adora in a potential sequel should the movie do great (seeing how it's Amazon, they are going to promote the absolute s**t outta this movie) and maybe even a She-Ra spin-off film afterwards.
This is all speculation on my part.

MOTU has enough lore for a decent trilogy. Part one is He-Man vs. Skeletor, part two is basically "Secret of the Sword" and part three is Rise of the Snakemen. Then there's potential for a prequel with King Grayskull and He-Ro vs the Snakemen.

Mattel is the only one that owns the character copyrights. You will never see character copyrights under Dreamworks. Mattel doesn't own character copyrights with Rulers of the Sun, Turtles of Grayskull or VeeFriends but they do own the character copyrights with Filmation. The license rights is the problem and with Filmation it's joint owned. It's not joint owned with the Netflix She-Ra show but it is with Filmation.
Did you know Mattel needed a deal with Dreamworks in place to make Masters of the Universe Revelation and the new movie? Mattel had to make a new deal with Dreamworks so Amazon could make sequels to the movie they are making now.
I always chuckle at the whole licensing rights thing with MOTU...
It reminds me of Marvel selling off bits of their IPs to the highest bidders... and how their flagship character, Spider-Man, couldn't even join the MCU without a deal with Sony.

@ornclown Did you know that in the late 90s, Marvel was in real financial ruin and were then starting to get into the film market by licensing the rights out to studios. No joke in 1998, they offered a price of $25 million to Sony for the films rights to ALL of their characters! Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, you name it but Sony declined the offer except for one because in their eyes, back then Spider-Man was the only Marvel character general audiences (non-comic readers) really gave a s**t about.
A Sony exec allegedly even said when they turned down the first offer from Marvel for all of them “Nobody gives a damn about any of the other Marvel characters. Go back and do a deal for only Spider-Man.” The final deal for just Spidey was $7 Million.
Yeah these costs sound baffling today with how big Marvel movies are now.
This was probably partially true back then with characters who would eventually become cultural icons through cinema like Iron Man and Black Panther. but at the same time not because there was X-Men and Hulk who have always been on Marvel's A-list (the former especially in the 90s for the cartoon).
Regardless, Sony basically got the biggest "This'll one day bite you in the ass HARD" situations in cinema history.
I will be crushed if the Cartoon Collection ends without another dozen POP characters getting made.
Really hope whoever said they lose the ability to make them next year is wrong.
@disneyboy I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but that unresolved frustration feels very familiar. After waiting so long for the salutary concept of mini-subs to occur back in 2012, we were finally able to complete the whole POP team two years later. But the real cause for concern for me is NA, time and time again.
