@lasastard even though the artists involved in the packaging design have a very deep love and understanding of MOTU lore. It's just a very odd, easily-avoidable own goal. How does shit like that happen? Why did they choose this box design? It's not like He-Ro's pack-out has a bunch of extra accessories that would have necessitated the box design over the vintage style card.Â
Idiots.
Also, it was pointed out on the other MOTU forum that The Great Black Wizard is prominently shown on the cover of He-Ro's comic. At first I didn't clue in and just assumed that was Skeletor, but he didn't exist in Preternia, so it makes sense that it's GBW (also, he's wearing a helmet). This gives me hope that Mattel will indeed be expanding the POG era with more characters that we haven't gotten before. POG deserves its time in the sun, nearly 40 years after being idiotically abandoned!!!

WTF?
Sadly it's because those subscription fees add up and Youtubers will promote your stuff for almost free.
Â
@sketchyskeletor there's nothing sad about this. They sent out early review samples to youtubers so we could get a sneak peek at what we ordered or if you haven't ordered it yet.Maybe you'd want to order it after seeing the review.

Maybe I'm forgetting, but when have they done that before? But that's what I'm getting at anyway, you can only buy this figure with a subscription.Â
Â
@sketchyskeletor Turtles of Grayskull wave 5 went out early to some youtubeers. Also it's $10 for a year and there's two more this year so if you get them all it's only $3.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333 per figure.

I haven't watched any of the live streams, but the reveals were all pretty underwhelming IMHO. Just nothing really exciting.Â
Â
Gone are the days of Classics reveals... when each one always seemed to please in one way or another.
At this point, what I'm clamoring for is more NA and PoP.
I am glad that we might be getting some of the oft-requested POG line, but if you really want a reaction Mattel, give us a full assortment of Son of He-Man figures.

Â
Packaging is awful... just awful.
And, I disagree with the reviewer claiming these can't make it at retail.
A shiny gold, barbarian wizard with a red cape and giant staff? This dude almost sells himself to kids... you got a little Superman, a little Conan, and a little Harry Potter all wrapped up in one package!
Â
>>>The Power of the Good and the Way of the Magic!<<<
ÂThat to me is honestly is such a major mistep. Why would they use this weird box design when the vintage version was *right there*
Kinda makes me think that the people in charge know the IP less than they should.Â
Â
I'm pretty sure my grandmother knows way more about MOTU than anyone at Mattel right now...

@ornclown lucky you. I told my grandmother I wanted a He-Man pillow, and I ended up with geese.

Only Mattel would wait until wave 5 for cheap promo, because that's all it is. Regarding CG, it's a completely unnecessary tax. There's simply no reason that figure wasn't part of the releases we're getting on Cretins anyway!
Â
@sketchyskeletor They probably wanted to get some "hype" going because they line got an extension. and the $10 for CG will help cover costs of making figure that need all new tooling like Eldor.

Â
I honestly think the more likely explanation for CG is that they have struggled to gauge interest in their Creations offering. By locking people into a "cheap" subscription, they probably figure that a good proportion of those subscribers are likely to buy whatever they make available. 5000 subscribers, so make 5000 figures. And everything that isn't bought by subscribers is then made available to non-subscribers. Makes the whole math a lot easier.Â
Â
It's still a scummy move.
Â
@lasastard i don't know if I would call it scummy, necessarily, it's just a move. It's a pretty common marketing strategy. Also if they only have 5000 subscribers they should close up shop. Also, also if the have X Subscribers they should be making X×3 figures as they typically put a limit of 3 figures pre person.
I get that people don't like what they're doing, but it's just business and businesses exist to make money not to give you toys.

I'm definitely not a fan of He-Ro's box either. It should have been the card back that you can open and close like all the others. He looks cool though! And yeah, the Club Grayskull fee is lame.Â
@karot-top the packaging reminds me of the japanese packaging that Super7 did but it is an odd choice. It doesn't bother me too much as I open most of my figures.

Now that there was no She-Ra-related reveal during their big presentation, does this mean I can have legitimate concerns about Mattel making female Rebellion characters?
Â
Cuz I really do.
Â
Heck, at this point I'm wondering if Swift Wind and Adora are even in the works!

Â
My impression was that the reveal show, as lame and creepy as it was, was mostly to get people lured into the Club Grayskull subscription, We've had a few PoP reveals for the Cartoon Collection at Toy Fair; but I don't think they have any plans to release PoP stuff over on Creations just yet.Â
Â
Poll from Toy Habits on whether folks want more Masterverse or Origins on Club Grayskull - it's pretty conclusiveÂ
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
@disneyboy no because thos was mostly for MC and CG stuff. If there's no more POP CC stuff at SDCC then you can worry.

Yup... I posted this in the other thread:
Masterverse has been too much of a mixed-bag for both collectors and casual fans.
They have released multiple versions of the same characters in too short of a time frame, and there is zero consistency in character selection, sub genre, quality, and release date.
The same could be said of Origins as well... however, Origins has nostalgia on its side and the benefit of crossovers with other popular brands.
Â
It sounds weird to say, but to the uninitiated, the Masterverse line looks like G.I. Joe Classified and Star Wars Black series had a baby...

I'm of a similar mind.
I would have thought Mattel was gearing up for "the year of PoP" considering the sheer amount of potential within.
With the Horde and Great Rebellion alone there are tons of incredible figures that need to see the light of day.
Plus, a part of me got really excited with the official reveal of the Fright Zone, because that is technically a PoP playset...

This is exactly what it was.
Mattel is going to create a divide within the fanbase... yet again.

Thanks for the reassurances guys. I guess I just have to wait until SDCC...and keep the faith.
