Anyone got snow and how much? So far next to nothing here on the shores of Lake Michigan, but we're getting ready for twenty-one inches of lake effect snow between Friday night and Saturday night. As for me and my Irish angel, we LOVE it -- all our fireplaces will be blazing, Irish Coffee and spiced eggnog will be flowing, my drop-dead County Cork gal will be perfectly decked out in corduroy and thick cable knit sweaters, knitting away at night with our daughter who arrives home from college for a long weekend, starting mid-afternoon on Friday, just before Snowmageddon hits and Coco, our Yorkie, will be curled up at Kim's feet! Life is good... 😉
Damn 21 inches!! We had some snow here last week but only half an inch. Haven’t had close to 21 inches in about 10 years
Same for us.
But aside from that, I'll tell you something odd, my friend. I'm very big on weather and I generally rely on the National Weather Service, NWS, for my weather reports. But recently my engineer son had me download the app for Carrot. Turns out the last couple of days NWS has been predicting between 2 to 8 inches, although leaving themselves an out by saying "...possibly in excess of...", while Carrot started off predicting 34 inches, then downgraded to 24 and now 21. For me and my family, the more the better. But Carrot better come through with at least 12 inches of snow this weekend or I'm going back to exclusively consulting NWS. 🙂
I am a cold blooded person and absolutely hate the snow. I never could handle that amount let alone enjoy it.
Well, we're downgraded to around ten inches which, when mixed with some rain, will probably end up around four or five inches of accumulation. But I'll take it. In my younger days and, heck, even ten or fifteen years ago, our first snowfall was by Thanksgiving, (late November) and snow remained on the ground until late February or early March. No more. The days of fifteen and twenty inch snowfalls seem gone. Could Al Gore have been right? Lol. Maybe I have to more to Canada.
On the other hand, the single digit temps plunge is definitely coming early next week so hopefully it will keep any snow that does fall right on the ground where it belongs.
No snow by us. We've had an extended snow drought, if that's even a thing.
If it's not too intrusive, where do you live?
I think snow drought is definitely a thing, Hachiman. I've seen reports from all over, including NYC and Boston, that say snowfall has been at its lowest in years -- I think only two or three inches all last year in NYC. And we've had very light snowfalls the last ten years here in Northwest Indiana, even being near Lake Michigan. I hate to say it, but I think the whole climate change thing plays into this.
I get that many people hate snow and I understand the problems with commutes and all. I guess I'm fortunate to work in my home office unless I'm in production and on a set or on location, so I can usually enjoy the white stuff falling outside my windows...when and if it falls.
I wish it would snow, I hate Summer.

Wow, no snow in NJ?! What was it like years ago?
FYI, we had our first hit of five inches overnight, with another ten to come today and then another five overnight and Saturday. Our Zoe is on the road, driving home from Ball State today. Zero snow down there because she's below the snow-line. She'll hit it about an hour away from home. She's an excellent driver but I'm very glad Kim and I bought her a four-wheel drive Jeep. I'll be relieved when she arrives this afternoon and we can begin the long weekend's snowy festivities... 🙂

I would say that the last significant snow fall we had was in 2021. I mean there have been dustings and such, but nothing to take seriously.
That sounds like a crazy blizzard. I wouldn't know what to do with myself!
Wouldn't know what to do with yourself? After I read your post to my Kim, she responded, "Wouldn't know what to do with himself?! No problem..."
You're obviously not married to an Irish gal. 😉 (I always say I'm IBM -- Irish By Marriage.)
As I said, all winter long we keep our fireplaces blazing, Irish coffee and rum-spiked eggnog flowing, feasts to be enjoyed laid out and thoroughly enjoy each other's company along with doing jigsaw puzzles, binge-watching Suits, Dallas, Dynasty and the 1940s movies that Kim and I love.
After this weekend's snowstorm, we're going to be hit by a subzero Arctic plunge. WE LOVE IT and my Hummer laughs at it! (I'm also fortunate to have an amazing home office with yet another fireplace and three swathes of floor-to-ceiling windows to work out of.)
Our 105 year old home -- the first in our village and built back when walls were made of plaster and glowing and burnished hardwood floors lasted..well...forever -- in a secret village carved from a forest on the shores of Lake Michigan, is straight out of a Currier & Ives print, evergreen tree branches covered with snow and deer and red foxes occasionally making their way through our grounds.
And me? My precious daughter has just arrived safely home from Ball State University. Our equally precious boys are firmly ensconced in the man-cave or their studies, and I've got a corduroy slacks-ed, bulky cable knit sweater-ed, UGGs-wearing, red-haired, blue-eyed Irish angel to cuddle up with. It really doesn't get much better than this. But at seventy-four years old, with, according to my medical team, my best thirty years yet to come, I promise you I've earned this after a life that was filled with more than its shares of ups and down and all arounds.
Trust me. I know what to do with myself. I intend to enjoy it...fully! 😉

Can you please translate the caption? My old eyes can't read the fine print, even with my reading glasses. 🙁
Indeed!
Thanks.
We're smack dab in the midst of Snowmaggedon now...and loving it!
We haven't gotten all that much here in Muncie Indiana yet but a huge cold front is upon us. No snow but single digits as our highs and negatives with the windchill.
Yep. Our Zoe attends Ball State in Muncie. She's here for a long weekend but fortunately her roommate is in Muncie and is wrapping their bathroom sink pipe with a heating pad and letting faucets drip. It'll be warming up by Wednesday so hang in there. 🙂
Btw, have you dined at Trust Your Butcher in Muncie? My Kim is from Omaha and I'm a former Chicago guy so we know beef. But I'll tell you Trust Your Butcher has the best steaks I've ever eaten. A bit pricey, but worth the splurge for a special occasion. And great steakhouse atmosphere coupled with excellent service 🙂
Made a quick trip to our supermarket for smoked salmon for tomorrow's breakfast. -6 degrees. Just blistering cold. Blessed with having a warm house, children and wife to comfort me all night through. 😉
I would like to sleep in an igloo one day. Not for a long period of time but for just one night and for the experience. I always found that Inuit lifestyle fascinating and I hear it gets pretty warm in there too.
