Right, so He-Ro will only be available to Club Grayskull members - basically, if I want to give Mattel my money, I first have to pay for the privilige to do so?
Â
Yeah, I guess...not happening ^^
Â
Had this been for special variants or whatever, fine, but a character like He-Ro behind a paywall seems a little ridiculous to me.Â
And the other two exclusives are Origins Hurricane Hordak, re-imagined, and a Masterverse Moss-Man (oversized, whatever that means).Â
Â
HAHA I do too, banthafett.
The narrative about He-Ro was just dumb. Those magic words - are those cannon? Yeesh.
The livestream froze as they mentioned someone with canon accessories - was that a reference to Hordak??

Â
yep
Â
Which version? Filmation? Cartoon Collection?
Â
EDIT:
Â
Oh FFS - entered my email for the giveaway right at the start and it said "ERROR".
Â
A portent of doom for the online subscription program? You decide!
Â
(Since when does Necroconda FLY?)
Well, of course. I mean, it was Filmation Hordak who constantly shape-shifted and could use a bunch of cool attachments, but why honor that?
*eyeroll*
This "REVEAL!1!" was pretty lame. Just say you're making He-Ro and launching a subscription and leave it at that. Takes 3 seconds.
@lasastard I don't think that's what they meant...

@lasastard that Huricane Hordak and MV Mossman are the other CG exclusives. For consistency i hope it's more PoG characters. Sharella is on He-Ro's art and she was on Terroar's and some of her parts are already made. Â
Also they can now finish the lost wave.

Possible; I was so annoyed by the announcement that they want to push me into a subscription just to buy a "regular" figure that steam was coming out of my ears at that point 😉
Â
Well, you don't have to be a good mathematician to understand that ordering this membership, however sporadic my interest may be, will always be better than tackling the secondary market for possible Masterverse exclusives. Still, I'll be pragmatic and wait to see the appeal of this famous oversized Moss Man.
@lasastard you were mad about something we've known for almost a week now? And I'd hardly call He-Ro a regular figure. He's what I like to call nonvintage-vntage, and he's in the same category with guys like Slamurai Snake Hoard Trooper and Plasmar.

I haven't watched any of the live streams, but the reveals were all pretty underwhelming IMHO. Just nothing really exciting.Â

It was utterly bizarre. They could have at least showed Blade and presumably Faker. Apart from He-Ro and the name mentions it was just terribly acted 'hype' stretched out to under ten minutes! Like to the point you wonder if they pulled stuff because of the leaks. And yet they went out of their way to send influencers oversized boxes just to hint at He-Ro. I've never seen a stranger company. Thank god.

@sketchyskeletor Mattel certainly makes some strange decisions. They had confidence in Snake Men Infiltrator and naked Stratos at retail, but not in Rio Blast or He-Ro
Â
The list gets smaller...Yes I know they haven't announced Two-Bad yet, but if they have the tooling already made...
Â
I hope if we do get the giants, they do them right. Not like the Andre the giant we got in the motu/wwe line.
Â
@banthafett that includes the vintage boxes exactly how they were too
They sent influencers big boxes?
Of what?
Â
Mattel mystifies me sometimes.

Â
Well it wasn't really official then! 😀
It just feels like a shady practice to me. Do I want He-ro in my collection? Honestly, depends on where they are going with Preternia. If it's just 1-2 characters before they shift focus to something else yet again (which they do, a lot), I'm fine. If they really do all the concept stuff from the 80s including vehicles (one can dream), I'd be a little annoyed to miss out, not gonna lie.Â
I am realizing that Mattels approach to MOTU is slowly eroding my passion for the hobby, or rather the brand. Which is why I get so annoyed by stuff like Club Grayskull. It isn't even a subscription where I am trading money for the guarantee to get certain items - and Mattel gets a clear picture of how much they have to produce (i.e. win-win). It literally is a tax for access to be able to possibly buy something. Sure, it's just 10 bucks, not a problem - but it just doesn't sit right with me out of principle.Â

This. All day long. Meanwhile you've got tiny companies knocking out multiple licences they don't own all at once, at high quality, and finishing them quickly.Â
Â
@lasastard I really appreciate that Mattel dramatically expanded the Snake Men faction in Origins, because in the vintage years it was a disproportionally small group compared with the others. I'm hopeful that they'll take the same approach with Powers of Grayskull by not just sticking with the couple of characters that existed in 1987. They seriously need to expand it to make it the substantial spin-off that it was originally envisioned to be. Classics can provide the roadmap for that, because the canon established during that era created many more characters for POG/Preternia. The potential exists! I really hope Mattel exploits that, since it's literally right there...
He-Ro's deluxe box is ok, but I kind of wish they had released him using the original card design from the 80's, like Super7 did a few years ago...
Also, they really should have included an extra head with an intense expression like on the card art where he's doing battle, instead of just that goofy grin. Missed opportunity there, because there are no other existing He-Ro variants where they could include that, unless they just make some random shit up on the fly.
I thought that monster was Minox at first too, but he doesn't have 4 arms like this guy, so this must be yet another new character that they'll never make a figure of. Why do they keep doing that if they're not serious about giving us these guys? He'd make the ideal buck re-use for Sagitar too, but it seems like Mattel isn't serious about giving us any NA guys either.
I can't with these clowns anymore.

Â
That to me is honestly is such a major mistep. Why would they use this weird box design when the vintage version was *right there*
Kinda makes me think that the people in charge know the IP less than they should.Â
