Well, we expected this would happen. Mattel has just announced that they are postponing the crowdfund launch of the Eternia’s Choice Winner: the Snake Lair playset.
Due to originally launch on Monday, August 12th, the Snake Lair playset was selected by fans in 2023 as the next large-scale Masters of the Universe item they wanted to be made available through crowdfunding.
However when the new Snake Lair playset was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con, it hardly resembled the concept art fans actually voted for.
Now, thanks to a survey Mattel launched (and reported on here), Mattel is spreading the word that they are listening to the fans and will subsequently make some changes to the Snake Lair.

Update on Eternia's Choice
Dear MOTU fan,
Eternia has been buzzing since we unveiled the Origins Snake Lair at San Diego Comic Con. Some of you loved it! Some did not. We appreciate each and every one of you, and we want to get this right.
To do so, we are postponing the launch of our crowdfund to incorporate your feedback. We believe in the Snake Lair. We know you do too because you voted it Eternia’s Choice last year. Snake Lair will be back and better than ever! Stay tuned for details.

Seriously though Mattel because you are probably reading this. All you got to do is make it like the concept art and small like Castle Grayskull and you will get a load of backers. It’s easy!
What a disaster. Think all the work it took to get ready for this launch. I wish I knew who had the brilliant idea to make something totally different especially after you asked people to pick on a design. Just dumb.
Watching that video I feel a little bad for them. I know they tried swinging for the fences but at least the stopped it before launching the campaign. That’s their bright side and I know they’ll do better next time.

Even though the playset didn’t look exactly like the concept drawing, I really liked the Snake Lair! And for $300, it’s more playset than Eternia’s $550. But the internet is always gonna internet and I assure you whatever Mattel comes back with won’t be as cool yet will stil manage to be relatively expensive. But hey, the fans won? Go off?
