Have you guys been following the progress of Team Sea3on online? They started out as yet another online comic book continuation of Sonic The Hedgehog (SatAM), but over a decade ago they decided to create an animated version of the comic...which eventually led to them creating a patreon and crowd-funding a full length pilot that they're hoping to not only stream to Youtube for free, but also pitch it to SEGA in the hope they're picked up and they can go to series.
I'm a little bit sceptical the pitch will be successful, due to all the red tape involved with the Freedom Fighters characters and the polarizing opinions of online Sonic purists in general, but at the very least I hope we still get some new SatAM content
I'm a member of their patreon and it's been money will spent. Just watched a full 18 second clip of it today and I'm blown away at the industry-standard animation.
Here's a look at some of what they've been sharing on social media:
Â
Â
How are they not worried about receiving a cease and desist order once it is finally complete? James Eatock knows a thing or two about this.
If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will fail above everyone else's success. -James Cameron
@elder Sega are commonly known to be A-OK with fan productions, and the team have said they've communicated closely with Sega. It's also recognised as a SAG project.
Â
@zarius The close communications with Sega I find intriguing. Do you know the nature of the communications? What proceeds the informing of a corporation we are doing an unauthorized project?

I haven't been privy to specific details, just what I've gathered from the team's statements in updates. SEGA are 'aware' of the patreon and aren't too concerned with it at the moment. They've partnered with official animation studios to do the necccersary 'polish' on the pilot episode and then they'll stream the full version on Youtube, then the idea is to present the pilot to Sega and Wildbrain (formerly Cookie Jar/Dic) for consideration to go to series.
