One of the books I loved as a youngster is still one of my favourites, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, the story of the March sisters (Meg, Jo, Beth & Amy) and their families and friends. I have also seen six different film and TV adaptations which I love as well.

1933: Stars Spring Byington as Marmee, Frances Dee as Meg, Katharine Hepburn as Jo, Jean Parker as Beth and Joan Bennett as Amy.

1949: Stars Mary Astor as Marmee, Janet Leigh as Meg, June Allyson as Jo, Elizabeth Taylor as Amy and Margaret O'Brien as Beth.

Peter Lawford played Laurie.

*In this movie, the age order between Beth & Amy were reversed. In the book, Beth is a year older than Amy, but in this version, they had to change this because Margaret O'Brien could not possibly have Elizabeth Taylor as a YOUNGER sister!

1978: Stars Dorothy McGuire as Marmee, Meredith Baxter-Birney as Meg, Susan Dey as Jo, Eve Plumb as Beth and Ann Dusenberry as Amy.

William Shatner played Professor Bhaer while Greer Garson played Aunt March.

1994: Stars Susan Sarandon as Marmee, Trini Alvarado as Meg, Winona Ryder as Jo, Claire Danes as Beth, and Kirsten Dunst as Amy (for the first half of the movie).

*When Amy becomes an adult, Kirsten Dunst could no longer play the character because she was obviously too young, so Samantha Mathis played the adult Amy for the second half of the movie. Also, Christian Bale played Laurie.

2017: Emily Watson played Marmee while Willa Fitzgerald played Meg, Maya Hawke played Jo, Annes Elwy played Beth and Kathryn Newton played Amy. Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid) played Laurie. Other notable cast members include Angela Lansbury as Aunt March.

2019: Emma Watson played Meg, Saoirse Ronan played Jo, Eliza Scanlen played Beth and Florence Pugh played Amy. Other notable cast members include Laura Dern as MarmeeTimothee Chalamet as Laurie and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.
