Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe made post credit scenes an iconic expectation among modern day audiences, the 1987 live-action film “Masters of the Universe” surprised fans (who happened to sit through the film’s credits) with a post credit stinger promising the return of… Skeletor!
Of course, 37 years later we know a sequel wasn’t meant to be. But now, “Masters of the Universe” director Gary Goddard has given fans a glimpse into what that return of Skeletor may have looked like (if the first film had been more successful).

Shared via a social media post with a script cover page dated “November 23, 1987” and titled “I, SKELETOR: The Rise of Snake Mountain“, Director Gary Goddard’s elaborated on how this story would bring the return of Skeletor.

GARY GODDARD: "Back when I was thinking about a sequel. He said he would be back. The underground river of bubbling lava-heated water would lead him to The Snake Men — where he would ultimately make good on his promise."
While the lack of success eliminated any possibility of this sequel and the Snake Men being realized, it is hard not to wonder what this story idea could have been.
Hopefully one day this (and other potential sequel ideas) will be adapted into another medium like a comic.
We’ll see you next time
It would have had to have been a huge success to get a movie like that from Canon. I think we would have been more likely to get He-Man is a quarterback lame plot line.
Could it be the same story? Skeletor has to come back no matter how you cut it.
Why has this not neen suggested before? A comic Is a brilliant idea.
