Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe made post credit scenes an iconic expectation among modern day audiences, the 1987 live-action film “Masters of the Universe” surprised fans (who happened to sit through the film’s credits) with a post credit stinger promising the return of… Skeletor!
Of course, 37 years later we know a sequel wasn’t meant to be. But now, “Masters of the Universe” director Gary Goddard has given fans a glimpse into what that return of Skeletor may have looked like (if the first film had been more successful).

Shared via a social media post with a script cover page dated “November 23, 1987” and titled “I, SKELETOR: The Rise of Snake Mountain“, Director Gary Goddard’s elaborated on how this story would bring the return of Skeletor.

GARY GODDARD: "Back when I was thinking about a sequel. He said he would be back. The underground river of bubbling lava-heated water would lead him to The Snake Men — where he would ultimately make good on his promise."
While the lack of success eliminated any possibility of this sequel and the Snake Men being realized, it is hard not to wonder what this story idea could have been.
Hopefully one day this (and other potential sequel ideas) will be adapted into another medium like a comic.
We’ll see you next time
It would have had to have been a huge success to get a movie like that from Canon. I think we would have been more likely to get He-Man is a quarterback lame plot line.
Could it be the same story? Skeletor has to come back no matter how you cut it.
Why has this not neen suggested before? A comic Is a brilliant idea.
Skeletor was going to come back as a Hollywood Director in that version I believe. I’m not sure how you marriage that with this Goddard version, but I suppose it is possible. As far as releasing this as a comic, I don’t think anyone wants their name attached to Goddard after the accusations over the years by actor Anthony Edwards and others.
No, he was going to be a corrupt CEO.
@firefly What accusations?
Goose from Top Gun swears that when he was a little choir boy Gary Goddard behaved like a Catholic Priest.
@gettinhighlander OH NO! Does he have proof?
@brain77 He said. He said.
Wow! I didn’t see that coming. It would have been tempting to think that, had the film been successful, the directors would have insisted on focusing strictly on the conflict between He-Man and Skeletor. There were so many Evil Warriors who didn’t have the chance to shine in this movie!
The Cannon script for the sequel can be found online.
Didnt have snakemen, had a lot of other weird non MOTU shit.
It was later reworked into the movie cyborg.
Huh… where’d you find it?
No shit? It’s online? You got a link dude?
The new movie is going to be 100 times better than the old one. Count on it.
I get the sense this is fake and was just made up on the fly recently by Goddard to generate buzz.
@durendal I thought the same thing but didn’t say it. Look at the font on his cover page. There is no way he printed that in the 1980’s.
