Thanks to the awesome community member @depp76 for the ‘heads up’!
We’ll see you next time!
Looks awesome! No army building on this one, but I’m excited to add a mega-sized Trooper to my display/head canon!
So inside are goblins? Aren’t goblins supposed to be small?
@kraken Hordge goblins wear stilts. 🤪
And what are these goblins based on exactly?
@durendal Filmation maybe. It sounds like a Filmationey thing to do.
Filamtion Horde Troopers were robots.
@lordofdestruction I think there’s a bit of confusion about that. Yes, many times you’d see them exploding (I think), but in Secret of the Sword, He-Man ambushed one from behind and then went under cover in the armour – how would that have been possible if it’s a robot?
There’s also an early episode, I think Duel at Devlin, where troopers order food at the place. I believe early on they were going to be like Star Wars Stormtroopers but then the show makers realized that if they made them robots it left the heroes free to be as violent as they wanted to them. They could “kill" the troopers all they wanted and the S&P people would look the other way since they’re “just machines".
I figure the best way to canonize it both ways is that most Troopers are robots but the commanders/leaders are guys in uniforms. Keep the living people in charge. (So in that regard I guess they’re more like the Separatist droid army than Imperial Stormtroopers)
@nogard I like the idea of them being the Horde’s cannon fodder, as in grunts in suits instead of robots. That offers way more story potential. Filmation really messed that up by randomly changing course and suddenly pretending that they’re just mindless robots without explanation. So lazy.
On the contrary, it’s not lazy it’s a way to get around standards and practices. If the cartoon had them as living beings they would not have been allowed to show them being canon fodder. At best it would be like in GI Joe where the Cobra soldiers were always shown bailing out of the vehicles before they exploded. (plus the guns were all lasers with no actual bullets fired and they all missed anyway) You just couldn’t do that in the 80s. Heck even today they don’t really allow it. At best it has to be bloodless and even then it can land a TV-PG rating.
It was real easy to do. The red troopers could have been the goblins.
There were goblins in Filmation and they were short but I don’t think they showed us goblins wearing Trooper armor.
So it has a smallish goblin head but, the limbs are removable? Sounds like Hordak rounded up a bunch of Goblins and created an army of super-cyborgs. Looking like an NE Hordak is right around the corner. He’ll probably be able to use the removable limbs from this guy. Can’t wait. NE is everything I wanted out of Masterverse.
I don’t remember which issue it was but one of the DC comics explained Horde Troopers were a kind of cyborg.
Interesting. But risky. Am I ready to slip into the Horde action figures line?
It hurts my feelings to see such a popular army builder still available through Mattel Creation sixteen days later. Aaaaah Masterverse …! What does the future hold for you?
@onlyoneskeletor The problem is that MV is utterly random and directionless. It doesn’t provide any catharsis over being able to complete any single line, faction, era.
@durendal Yeah, releasing a Horde Trooper under ‘New Eternia’ is a prime example of this for sure. They’ve already released half the Horde under ‘Princess of Power’ subline, are they now going to start releasing them under ‘New Eternia’ as well? Nothing will be complete in Masterverse at this rate.
@Durendal According to what seems to be a long-term strategy regarding Motu, I doubt that it will happen anytime soon, but I wish Mattel Creation to become a more exploited venue for their collector items, especially of course the figures, cause man, at this rate … Geez!
I just opened my HordeTrooper and the belly articulation is totally loose : impossible to pose the chest. Am I alone in this?
I bought three and they were all tight. You need a replacement.
Thanks, I missed your answer. I bought 2, I will open the second one before writing to Mattel. It’s the first time I have a problem with a Masterverse figure.
@petruspeter mine had a splash of black paint on the upper right part of his chest. Other than that he was tight
I opened the second one which is OK. Mattel won’t replace the broken one, and propose 15 euros “because I can keep it"…
I sent a protest e-mail: I can understand that they don’t replace for European customers, but I had to open the second one that I wanted to leave new, and I would have expected a more appropriate proposal…
Under basic consumer law they either have to replace it or refund you in full. Don’t let them get away with it, state the above. They’ve tried that bullshit with me a few times, they challenge NECA for shady practices.
