Evil Warrior actor Grooming Habits on “MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE” Movie Set reaffirm use of Practical Effects!

Back in October of 2024, we broke the news that Prosthetic Makeup Artist Barrie Gower joined the ”Masters of the Universe” Movie crew to bring the Evil & Heroic Warriors to life.

Bringing humanoid creatures to life in a new live-action movie can definitely be accomplished digitally versus using old-school, fan favorite practical effects… so it was exciting that the right practical effects creative talent was put in place (Barrie Gower) to accomplish the latter.

An example of Barrie Gower’s work

Now when you apply practical effects prosthetics and facial appliances with special adhesives, it requires actors to be cleanly shaven, something Goat Man actor Hafthor Bjornsson displayed months before. (Tattoos had to be covered with makeup too!)

And while our Goat Man actor was shaving facial hair, he teased images of his Goat Man practical effects costume around him.

Nice Circle Beard! (Don’t notice the hand!)
Now it’s a mustache! (Don’t notice the horns!)

And now, Moss Man actor Stephen Adentan recently took to his Instagram story about the grooming habits the “Masters of the Universe” Movie requires of him as well, that also reaffirms the use of practical effects prosthetics. Check it out:

STEPHEN ADENTAN: "This film keeps asking me to shave my face, and like, the (filming) dates are so spread out I can't even let shit grow because I have to shave it again. So it's got me looking like an old man trying to be young, but yeah it's mad."

So there is definitely reason to celebrate, practical effects fans! And one day, the behind-the-scenes footage showing how these looks were achieved for the “Masters of the Universe” Movie is going to be amazing!

Filming for “Masters of the Universe” is currently underway with the movie scheduled to be released in cinemas worldwide on June 5th, 2026.

We’ll see you next time!
