Back in March, we stressed that a great deal of Masters of the Universe fans in the collector market like to purchase more than one of their favorite action figures (often to keep one mint in packaging and another on display.)
With Mattel likely knowing this, it was understandable when the Origins “Cartoon Collection” Vultak figure was made available last month exclusively on the Mattel Creations website, collectors were frustrated when this purchasing-multiple-figure-behavior was actually penalized.
Yes, Mattel capped orders to a quantity one for all Club Grayskull Members who had early access to the figure. This meant if Club Grayskull Members wanted to purchase more than one figure, they would have to order it again after the early access window, resulting in paying twice for shipping.
Fans were obviously displeased, so it was refreshing when Mattel apparently heard the fans loud and clear and remedied the situation. This was their fix:
Per Mattel:
“Members Early Access purchase limits have increased based on fan feedback. If you place an additional order for this item during the Members Early Access window, Mattel Creations will refund your shipping fee on your first order of the same item.”
Fast forward to today, Mattel Creations has revealed a sneak peek for their upcoming Masters of the Universe: Origins Hurricane Hordak figure (coming April 23rd), where they surprisingly capped quantities again for Club Grayskull Members. Check it out:
Hey, Club Grayskull!
Batten down the hatches for a re-take on a classic MOTU figure! 🤩
It’s time for the raucous return of an alien warlord know for being a twisting tyrant… 👀
That’s right! As previously teased during Mattel Creations Revealed, Hurricane Hodak will be here soon! Here’s a sneak peek of this figure as we prepare for our official announcement:
Additionally, we wanted to make sure you all know that from April 23, at 9:00am PT through April 24 at 8:59am PT, only Club Grayskull members can buy this figure at MattelCreations.com, while supplies last, limited to one per member. During this early access window, limited units will be made available to Club Grayskull members. Beginning April 24, at 9:00am PT, the figure will be available to the general public.
Are you planning on adding this figure to your collection? Let us know in the replies! 🦾😎
With the previous Vultak figure debacle, we had hoped that Mattel permanently changed their course when it came to limiting the quantities that Club Grayskull Members could order. However, with Hurricane Hordak, it seems like we are sadly back to square one.
It seems that capping the quantity to one Hurricane Hordak figure for Club Grayskull Members was a miscommunication by Mattel. They have since apologized and issued this correction:
Update 04/13/25 at 9:53PM PT
Hey, all!
It turns out there was miscommunication to me on the limit per member for this figure.
I’m happy to confirm that during the members only shopping window, the limit per customer is actually 3. Again, I sincerely apologize for the confusion my original post caused!
Also, please note that if this figure does not sell out during the members only shopping window, the sale will still go live to the public with a continued limit of 3 per customer. This means that anyone who purchased 3 figures during the members only window will be unable to purchase more during the public sale.

I think some of you owe Mattel an apology.
Dude. Mattel makes a mistake and they say sorry to us but you think we owe Mattel an apology? Now I know your nuts.

Er, if any item sells out during the members only time frame people will be mighty pissed! Hell, I am a CG member but it doesn’t recognise Northern Ireland so I don’t even get the benefit!

What do you mean when you say they don’t recognize Northern Ireland?

It’s part of the UK but not as far as Cretins are concerned… I contacted them and they didn’t even tell me to order internationally. They’re the worst f’ing bunch I’ve ever seen. More preparation goes into a bowl of cereal.

Right… so do we have to assume now that anything “Origins" will be behind their CG paywall then?
Honestly, at this point I am waiting for Stonedar and then I am the hell out. Unless Fright Zone is sold on MC as well, then I am out after that 😉
Terrible form on Mattels part.
@lasastard so far only one figure was a CG exclusives and there are only two more that will be. It’s $10 fir the year you you make that in a half hour by panhandling outside Walmart.
It’s honestly a matter of principle at this point since I do not see a real justification for the subscribtion price (they could just as well sell these figures to the wider audience). But you are not wrong of course, someone still heavily invested in the line will not mind the nerd tax.
Oh shiny.
Also right elbow joint confirmed.
Idiots.
It could be worse. Mattel could be sending young girls to porn sites listed on Wicked doll packages.
Oh wait
@gettinhighlander i blame AI for that one.

I wonder what they are afraid of.
