OFF SCHEDULE? Upcoming Snake Lair playset crowdfund campaign already misses its first countdown

Sssomething is not right.

When “Eternia’s Choice” winner, the Snake Lair playset, was selected by fans last year as the next large-scale Masters of the Universe item to go up for crowdfunding… many were surprised that the new Snake Lair playset revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con hardly resembled the actual art fans voted on.

The fan disappointment seemed substantial, enough for Mattel to launch a surprising new survey five days ago asking (among other things) what Snake Lair features were fans the least excited about. (Lean more about that survey HERE.)

It was a move that appeared irregular at the least, considering the crowdfunding campaign was slated to begin around the corner on August 12th. It certainly seemed like Mattel was not fully confident that their new SNAKE LAIR playset (as it currently stands) would be successfully crowdfunded.

And now, the Snake Lair crowdfund campaign missed its first countdown, set by Mattel themselves via a FAQ press release distributed during this past San Diego Comic-Con (and through a countdown timer Mattel Creations emailed to interested consumers.)

Yes today, August 5th, was supposed to be the day where Mattel would reveal the Snake Lair’s official pricing to the world. Check it out:

(Per Mattel)
What is the price for this playset?

This is an early sneak of product and pricing will be shared on Monday, August 5th, 2024.

Well now, as of press time, it appears Mattel will not be revealing pricing on August 5th per the schedule that they originally laid out.

So what does this mean for the future of the Snake Lair playset crowdfunding campaign? Stay tuned to find out.

We’ll see you next time.

  1. I love the playset! It will be unfortunate if it is altered to match a concept design or price point. Mattel should just move forward and let fans vote with their wallets. Fandom knows what happens when producers make knee-jerk reaction to online discourse.

    1. @mrhootiedean I hear what you’re saying but there’s so much anecdotal evidence this crowdfund would bomb that Mattel took the unprecedented anywhere step of polling fans for hints. Go into any comment section on social media and the negative vastly outweighs the positive.
Also, October 12th 2023 was when the fan vote result was announced, and here we are with a fully produced Lair that looks radically different to what fans voted on? In well under a year? That’s beyond fishy.

    1. How will I ever survive without Bone Lady Slither. Let it die. I’m tired of all the snake shit anyway.

I’ve collected the whole Origins line (except Eternia) and even I want them to give the Snakes a break. They’re so bloody boring after 2 years and we’re not even done! Just put them into packs and finish them altogether! But no, what if we put them into the ToG line…

Why did you pass on Eternia?
