”Masters of the Universe” Movie actress Camila Mendes begins research for her TEELA role

This past Thurdsay was an exciting day for Masters of the Universe fans when they learned that the role of Teela was cast for the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.

It was announced that none other than actress Camila Mendes (Riverdale) would play the iconic role.

Once Camila Mendes was announced as Teela, she instantly took to social media to express her all out excitement:

"stoked to get yoked 💪 still can't believe this is real....thank you @amazonmgmstudios @mattel and Travis Knight for believing in me as your teela - let's go eternia!!!"

And now, it didn’t take Camila Mendes long to begin her extensive research of the character Teela, the Captain of the Royal Guard.

Posting on an Instagram Story this weekend, Camila showed a picture of herself under a blanket watching He-Man’s transformation sequence from the 1983 classic Filmation cartoon series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe“, with the “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Mini Comic Collection” hardcover book on her lap. Check it out:

It is terrific to see actress Camila Mendes take the role of Teela so seriously!

Filming for the “Masters of the Universe” movie is scheduled to begin January 2025 and will debut in cinemas worldwide on June 5th, 2026.

We’ll see you next time!

  1. It’s very telling they they are allowing her to watch and read the goods from how this all started.

Unlike Singer with x-men, he didn’t want them doing research, he very much wanted it to be guided by the specific script and his vision.

This us step in the right direction.
Again, I wanna see the work out she gets on and her fight training.

  2. I so hope they really give it their best to turn her into Teela and not repeat what the Flash movie did with having an actress that could have looked like a great Supergirl if they had bothered but now is best remembered as that alternative SG from another failed DC movie while Gunn already teased (or outright announced by now?) a Supergirl that looks like one.
Alterenative creative takes can work well in phases of oversaturation (i.e. Batman; lets do a pre industrial age noir version!); not when all the fanbase crys “please, finally get you f*ing s*it together and do it right this time dangit!" because all the major player love to suddenly feel the urge to change the success formular that made the fans open their wallets to begin with into someting else for the sake of it.
    *takes a deep breath*
Sry for the drunk rant. Ms. Mendes: Best of luck & may you find in Teela what we fans love in her and do your best to get it on screen.

    1. I won’t be surprised if her body is covered from head to toe in costume to avoid being accused of sexualizing her. At the same time He-Man wearing nothing but a loincloth and harness will be no problem.

So in other words, the 1987 movie? 🤣  I hope she incorporates that film into her research. “Woman At Arms" really made an impression in that movie.

Ahead of its time and not a good thing. Her outfit felt like it belonged more in Star Wars 1977.

  3. That is cute and fun to see!
I love that she is also basically promoting MOTU to her followers right from the start.
And yes, of course it’s great to see her doing some classic research. The cartoon is the most famous, but she’ll also see the more spooky and dark Alcala mini-comics to balance things out.
