On a promotional tour for a new film documenting his life titled “You Can Call Me Bill” opening in theaters this Wednesday, March 20th (two days before his 93rd birthday), the legendary actor William Shatner sat down with the Los Angeles Times recently to promote the documentary.
During the interview, William Shatner was briefly asked about playing the role of Keldor in “Masters of the Universe: Revolution”, specifically regarding how it seemed Shatner was playing the role with a sense of fun… as someone who really appeared to be enjoying himself.
Shatner expressed that he believed that fun nature was actually in the script, and his performance was just instinctive. Here is what he had to say:
WILLIAM SHATNER: I think that was there in the writing — I didn’t know what to do about it, an ancient animated character. How do you look for some way to do it in a new fashion, add some character to it? I didn’t know how to make choices so I just sort of intuitively went along.
Humorously, when asked if Showrunner Kevin Smith gave the legendary actor any specific instruction, this is what Mr. Shatner had to say:
WILLIAM SHATNER: He yelled “Great!” a lot.
Watch “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” streaming right now on Netflix, and catch “You Can Call Me Bill” with screenings in select theaters beginning this Wednesday, March 20th.
We’ll see you next time!
After looking at that side by side pic I think Keldor was modeled after a younger William Shatner.
Maybe Keldor will be shown in the documentary. Even for a second I would love that.
Emmy nomination incoming.
