Back in May of 2022 (reported HERE), Masters of the Universe fans were elated to learn that a new Mattel Adventure Park would be opening in Glendale, Arizona.
And that was because… among the planned Barbie Beach House, Hot Wheels Roller Coaster and Thomas & Friends indoor theme park… there would be a giant 4,500 square foot Castle Grayskull housing a laser tag arena where fans could fight for the future of Eternia.
The official press release from Mattel and EPIC Resort Destinations indicated the Mattel Adventure Park would open the first quarter (January, February, March) of 2023.
Then in November of 2022, at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions expo in Orlando Florida (reported HERE), we learned the title for the upcoming Masters of the Universe attraction. It was called “He-Man Versus Skeletor Laser Tag”. And once again, they advertised an opening in 2023, but this time did not say Quarter One.
Of course, 2023 is halfway over now, and there is still no Mattel Adventure Park opening day announcement to show for it. Well Masters of the Universe fans, it unfortunately looks like we will be waiting quite a while longer.
Yesterday we finally received an update on the park’s opening from Mark Cornell, President of Mattel Adventure Park (courtesy of FOX 10’s Danielle Miller), and it wasn’t a good one.
While showing off a new Hot Wheels Bone Shaker coaster car for Rollercoaster Day, Mark had this to say regarding the Mattel Adventure Park’s opening date:
“So 2024 is what we’re saying… but I want to tell you we have hundreds of employees at the resort and the park everyday just working away to push this opening date.”
And it appears that construction is the reason for the delay…
“(continued) In this secret warehouse I have about 20 attractions in the crate. We’ve hired some attraction development people from around the world that are probably the best at what they do on the planet, and these rides are just ready to go. We are just waiting for construction to advance a little bit more. In the coming months, we’ll have a more refined end date.”
– Mark Cornell, President of Mattel Adventure Park
Now while it looks like everyone is shooting for a 2024 opening timeframe with a truthfully not-very-confident-sounding “so 2024 is what we’re saying”, Fox 10 concluded in their article that “construction is expected to be complete by late 2024.”
Considering the delays this park already has apparently experienced, it is easy to imagine a scenario that construction completing “late 2024” could easily turn into early 2025. I guess all we can do is wait (and wait and wait and wait).
We’ll see you next time.

Well not living in the USA would made this a expensive trip either way. 😮
@catra Maybe if it’s a big success they will make one in Europe and Australia.
@he-dad hope so! 😀
I live close to the area. Just 4 hours away but I don’t really see myself attending this. Not if it’s just to play some Lazor tag.
@bricrue To be so close mate! To step through a full scale Castle Grayskull feels worthy of the price of admission.
Don’t many of you over seas have access to real castles? Now that I would love to see. Not some Lazor Tag building that might look neat on the outside but inside it’ll just be a maze of kids running around with pew pew guns. I’ll happily trade a trip to a real castle then to spend the 4 hours drive to something that I might get 10 minutes to run around in for like $20 a game.
😂
