CANCELLED: ”He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” is No More, per Series Writer

Unfortunately, we sadly anticipated this would be the case.

When Dark Horse Publishing released “The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” book this past January, it provided fans a tremendous amount of spoilery detail regarding where the potential fourth season of this children’s animated series might go, if more episodes were greenlit by Netflix. (Our article on that can be found here).

But dropping all this spoiler behind-the-scenes material out into the public for a potential season not even out yet, did make us concerned that perhaps the sun had indeed set on the series… a speculation increased by Showrunner & Executive Producer Rob David’s own vague words that “one day” he would be able to tell this future story he teased. Well now, thanks to Screenwriter Amanda Deibert, our fears have now officially realized.

Amanda is a television writer with experience in film and animation, who wrote three episodes of Netflix’s “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” When she was asked by a fan if the CGI He-Man series had been cancelled, she confirmed the grim news.

But cheer up “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” fans! Although future seasons were not renewed by Netflix, this is Masters of the Universe, and there are endless possibilities and formats these new interpretations of the characters we love, can live on through…. starting with the multiverse tale in the upcoming Dark Horse comic “Masterverse” Issue 4 which debuts May 17th.

Thanks very much to Multifan200 on TWITTER for the ‘heads up’.

We’ll see you next time.

  1. This makes the CGI series the shortest MOTU series at only 26 (wonderful) episodes.
and another He-Man series to (unfortunately) end prematurely without finishing the story. It’s one thing when a show you love stops producing new episodes but it’s especially sad when said show was SUPPOSED to have new episodes and now you won’t see them.
I’m hoping we get more adventures in this continuity in other media, like comics for instance.
Maybe Masterverse #4’s “CG-verse" story will be like a peak into what we could’ve seen in season 4. Like, what if Tim takes one of the unmade episodes from S4 and adapts it for his comic.
I mean, yes I know Tim wasn’t a writer on the CG series but I mean….I’m sure Tim and the team at Dark Horse are in the know about season 4’s content if Dark Horse were able to publish that art/guide book at all.

It’s possible! Tim said the Masterverse comics are Rob David’s baby, and Rob David was the showrunner for the CG series, so perhaps one of the Season 4 episode ideas has been adapted in this comic. You made me even more excited for issue #4 @adoralovely ! 🙂

    1. Time for a fan campaign to save this in some fashion. I would be great with a dark horse comic continuation; however, shows have been saved with enough pressure in the past. Who’s up for some letter writing and a social media blitz?

I wished these fan campaigns worked more than the rarest of instances, but I’d happily sign any petition !

      Same here.
Even more so since they confirmed that Two-Bad’s “heads" have been around since season 1 (not to mention that they would have been part of the Hero B-Team).

  2. I tried to watch the first one but I just felt it was more geered for younger audiences as the character seemed like Teens rather then adults. Does this mean all masters are done? Or just this CGI one? Would love to see Kevin Smith’s version come back. I really enjoyed it and if people start back down the “No enough He-Man in it… Cant we make it bout all of the Masters figures? I loved the story and how it’s all coming together and would hate to see it go away.
