When the Netflix 2021 children’s computer animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” was greenlit and put into production, the streaming service locked in an initial order for 26 episodes, guaranteeing three seasons for its fans if the series was a success or not.
While we are still uncertain if there will be a new fourth season greenlit by Netflix, and if not, in what format will this story possibly continue in (more on that in a moment), Dark Horse Books new release The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe provides fans major insight where the next chapter will take us: Earthbound!
(Spoilers ahead!)
That’s right. According to the book, the next chapter promises “When the Horde conquers Eternia, our heroes Adam, Duncan, Teela, and Cringer (plus Keldor!!) escape to planet Earth on a desperate mission to find the Terran astronaut who may hold the secret to stopping Hordak: Adam’s mom, Marlena.”
This is all while “The mysterious Despara—Hordak’s chief enforcer—is on their trail to stop them.”
We also learn that Hordak and his Horde are “the archetypes of terror, Known by many names across the universe. On Earth, we call them the vampire, the bug-eyed alien, the mummy, the werewolf, the Frankenstein monster, and the creature of the swamp.”
Now while this is happening, back on Eternia, “With their friends off-world, Krass and Ork-O assemble a new team of Masters of the Universe to help fight the Horde occupation: Sy-Klone, Stonedar, and Two Bad (yes, Two Bad!).
Now if your curious why Showrunner & Executive Producer Rob David is revealing so much info about a possible next chapter, so are we. These kind of large early spoilerly reveals often are made if the show’s creators aren’t given an opportunity to continue a story. What also makes things uncertain is Showrunner Rob David’s own words, where he indicates they will tell us this story “one day”. Here is his full quote:
ROB DAVID: “How do all these sneak peeks tie together? And What about that big cliffhanger question: is Evil-Lyn truly the daughter of Hordak?? Well, you’ve made it this far, so we can tell you this: we ain’t gonna tell you in this book! But one day we will tell that story, because MOTU is a living myth, full of endless possibilities. MOTU forever!”
Does “one day” and the “endless possibilities” Rob David is speaking about when he discusses the telling of this new chapter mean the story might have to continue in a book or comic one day? Or is there still hope for a Season Four? We don’t know, but hopefully there will be plenty of more stories told one way or another for all who love it.
And be sure to pick up “The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” in book stores everywhere, which contains even more sneak peeks than we revealed here.
We’ll see you next time!

Or perhaps pick an opportune time like at the San Diego Comic-Con or equivalent. I guess we’ll see!
This show arrived to such positive reviews, surely they will continue it. Granted only time will tell, but with Revolution on the way and a movie in the works, it seems crazy to scrap the more positively reviewed MOTU revival. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED Revolution and hope Kevin Smith and team keep going for years to come. But the CGI show has to be cheaper to produce with a much more affordable voice cast. So let’s keep them both coming. Without new media, Origins and Masterverse will fade away.
Positive reviews don’t pay the bills though.
This is very true John, or “Dredd" (2012) would have had its planned sequels greenlit. But at least with Dredd we know the box-office receipts were poor. Unfortunately with the CG show, Netflix keeps us mostly in the dark with its ratings and financial solvency.
She-ra and the Princesses of Power held on for 5 or 6 seasons, long after the backlash began and it really fell off by the final seasons. Netflix has a bad habit of leaving fans wondering and then just dropping new episodes with limited promotion. I’m holding out that this will be the case here.
Let’s hope!
The He-man cgi cartoon is not on this list. 😫

Well me and my old timer friend are both hyped for it and the Kevin Smith show, he watched the 80s show I watched 2000s He-man and 2010s She-ra and we both watched each others shows after and both enjoyed the others show! I am really hyped to find out it is 4 seasons or more.
I am sill laughing at them being on Earth. 😂
Another classic fish out of water story.
Does anyone remember at all this little gem of a movie, STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME? The story laid out for Season 4 reminds me of that movie’s framework.
Maybe without the time travel.
Maybe Courtney Cox or Robert Duncan McNeil could lend their voices to a cameo role, if it gets made.
@sshook27 That would be amazing.
We can work in time travel, Marlena crashed through a black whole which is often associated with time travel. Maybe they are searching for Marlena before she ever left Earth and the quest has to ensure certain events unfold as they did before.
Love it! You know, Kevin Feige from Marvel enjoyed a lot of success adapting Star Trek ideas into the MCU Infinity Saga, and based how I’m responding to this idea, I think it might be great for Motu too! 😀👍
Other than the 80s live action movie, has He-Man ever travelled to Earth?
Seems weird that it never happened, given that Marlena was from Earth (in most versions).
@costume-n00b So far it’s just been the movie.
@costume-n00b Sources were indicating the new live-action Motu movie which stalled at Netflix was going to have a lot of scenes on Earth. 😮
@admin yeah, I think I heard something about that. The movie version of Adam initially lives on Earth instead of Eternia. Is that correct?
Yep, living with Marlena on Earth and is suddenly needed on Eternia. “Woah, your tigers are green here?" Cue laughs. 😁
