Anyone who is a fan of the vintage Masters of the Universe action figures and toys is probably familiar with the “Road Ripper”.
The Road Ripper was a very cool (and very fast), three-wheeled hero vehicle that was released in 1984. Lean, mean and green, the Road Ripper came included with a red ripcord where, by pulling the ripcord out very fast, would cause a hidden wheel to spin at a very high speed, propelling the vehicle across hardwood (and other smooth floors.)
While the Road Ripper appeared sparingly in a couple episodes of the Filmation series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” and therefore can be confirmed as is in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” continuity, the actual vehicle itself was nowhere to be found in the Netflix 2021 series.
Or was it?
In Episode 2 of “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” titled “The Poisoned Chalice”, mercenaries Teela and Andra wore masks with their early encounter with Stinkor. And when one looked closely at those masks, one might notice some interesting similarities between them and the Road Ripper design.
Check it out:
Yep, according to the good folk at Powerhouse Animation Studios, these similar features were not a coincidence, but an intentional Easter Egg and nod to the iconic Road Ripper vehicle. Very cool.
Until next time!
Can confirm… this was deliberate. There was also an earlier design where their masks evoked the Blasterhawk… but the mouth looked like a vacuum! LOL
Thanks Ted!
Wow, a Blasterhawk? That sounds equally awesome, err, except for the vacuum part. LOL
