@durendal Ego and legacy. It's hard to hand that over to someone else. It would be harder if someone improved the site. He did hint he would sell it to Mattel. That would be a nice payday. Even legacies can have a price.
Well, Val wasn't the founder of the org - he took over from someone else, so for him to deny the same opportunity to another fan more than happy to buy the site to ensure continuity is frankly vile.
Also, selling it to Mattel would be awful. The heart and soul of the site was created entirely by years and years of passionate fan input - it's not some lame corporate product.
I think you're being unnecessarily harsh to Val, he has always tried his best to do right by the fans and it couldn't have been an easy decision.

I don't think that's true. Why didn't he sell it then when he had numerous offers from fans to take over?
Yeah, so today I was discussing it with some other fans in one of the Discord servers. Needless to say they are not impressed to learn the backups were not going to be public. The whole reason why people were trying to back it up in the first place was because there was stuff on there that would become lost media if the site were to go down (The interviews, fan works, live reaction threads, etc). The fact that Val claimed it was being backed up when he meant only privately and not even clarifying that it would be private, means that Val AT BEST underestimated the value of the content being erased.
We need to start another thread somewhere trying to compile what we have.
EDIT: I JUST REMEMBERED THAT'S WHERE THE GERMAN AUDIOPLAY TRANSLATIONS WERE!!! Those were some of my favourites and they aren't even showing up on waybackmachine...
@river We could also ask the For Eternia Sysop to host this archived marerial on permanent pages.
@admin can we do this bro?
Also I had to look up Sysop 😁
Absolutely! If it's copyright to He-Man.Org I will have to ask Val's permission first, but we can make it its entirely own section. 🙂

Guys, this gets even worse...
So one of the things I (and others) did before the site went down was save the majority of links to the waybackmachine. I checked several threads on the eve before the closure and confirmed that most of the pages had been saved, and I myself had saved threads like the live 200x episode reaction threads to the archive, backing up the url's I used to a word document in case I could not access them again.
However, it has been brought to my attention that barely any of the org pages appear as archived now. Even the ones that I know for a fact I myself had archived and had the exact links for.
This is devastating. The friend who informed me of this is seriously concerned that the Power Tour press kit may be lost forever. I'm likewise worried about the translations of the German audioplays. There is so much on that site that may just be lost forever because of this.
UPDATE: ok so apparently wayback machine occasionally just has stuff showing up as nonexistent due to a bug and it should resolve itself within a month or so. Hopefully that's the case.
Has anyone who has a contact for Val asked him about having the archive hosted here as @admin has so generously offered?
I know emotions are still high but we need to be careful not to go "full Internet revolt" on Val. He's a guy who has a long history of doing a lot of good for this community. It seems unfair to just turn on him. Let's work on helping find a way to bring back what we've lost. If it's possible to, that is.
"If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting."

@admin are you friends with Val? If you are can you reach out to him broski?

We should boycott Power-Con.
You cannot boycott something you did not financially support in the first place. A convention is not going to miss the money you never spent there.

We haven't had a real opportunity to be friends to be honest, but we are certainly friendly! And whatever I can do in hosting the load of content for posterity I believe he is aware. I definitely feel incredibly blessed to be part of this community and truly try to help everywhere I can. 🙂

Are you deliberately being nitwitted?
Are you? Boycotts only work if you withdraw financial support from something you previously financially supported. If you have never attended Power-Con, or financially supported it in any way, then your personal boycott is nothing more than a symbolic gesture. No one is going to notice that your non-support is missing, so it will have no impact whatsoever.

Who said I never intended? Who said a boycott would be effective with one person taking action who never attended in the first place? You are explaining basic arithmetic to me and patting yourself on the back for it.

The important part is that you get to feel self-righteous.
