TEELA Actress Camila Mendes exits ”I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot to train for MOTU MOVIE in the U.K.

One month before it was announced that actress Camila Mendes was cast in the role of Teela in the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, Camilla was announced to star in the upcoming reboot of the 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer.

The reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” was set to star Camila Mendes and Madelyn Cline with franchise veterans Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reportedly in talks to reprise their roles.

But then, just a few days ago, Hollywood trades began reporting that actress Camila Mendes backed out of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot film that was supposed to begin filming this November. And now, thanks to the Teela actress herself, we know why.

Camila Mendes revealed on X to an inquiring fan that she left the horror film reboot because she needed to begin prepping and training for the “Masters of the Universe” new live-action movie this November… in the United Kingdom!

Per Camila Mendes:

"feel like i should clear the air here. ikwydls (I Know What You Did Last Summer) is now shooting through november and december, which is when i need to be in the UK prepping/training for motu. i promise you, we tried everything we could to make it work 💔 unfortunately there was no way around this."

So it seems Camila Mendes won the Teela role after being cast in the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot, and when a scheduling conflict occurred, Teela became her priority. Now we wonder if the United Kingdom will not just be a destination for training, but will be the place where the entire “Masters of the Universe” new live-action movie is filmed. We shall see!

Filming is reportedly scheduled to begin January 2025 for “Masters of the Universe” and slated to be in cinemas worldwide on June 5th, 2026.
