As many fans can recall, back in the Summer of 2022, there was an exclusive San Diego Comic-Con 1:6 Scale Mondo Skeletor released to only 2,000 units.
Based on the 2021 Netflix series “Masters of the Universe: Revelation”, it featured an entirely new sculpt and a cel shaded paint design that wonderfully captured the animation aesthetic.
After its release, many fans were wondering if Mondo planned to make more figures in this 1:6 scale animation line… especially a Revelation/Revolution He-Man. We soon learned that the answer (at the time) was excitingly… YES!
Thats because back in January 2023 on Eamon O’Donoghue’s excellent high-end sixth scale collector podcast The Hot Toy Cast (found on all podcast platforms everywhere), he held a special Mondo Masters of the Universe podcast with guests “Pixel” Dan Eardley and Ted Biaselli. And during that podcast, Pixel Dan revealed that there were more Revelation Animation style figures are on the way. This is what he said:
“So the thing that’s cool about this (Revelation) Skeletor, and I don’t know if anyone has really paid much attention or noticed, but it’s not utilizing the same body system as the standard Masters of the Universe line for Mondo. And the reason for that is because the Revelation line is a separate line, they’re treating it like a different line. So they’re actually basing those off the animation which is why the body is built different. And… that means there is more of these coming. So this is a full line. Separate from the standard 1:6th Masters of the Universe line that they’re doing, so you guys can expect to see some more animated figures coming soon.”
- Pixel Dan Eardley - January 2023
Pixel Dan’s reveal was exciting, because now the question became when would fans get another Mondo 1:6 Scale figure in the Revelation/Revolution style rather than will we. But now things have apparently changed.
Appearing with Masters of the Universe: Revelation & Revolution executive producer Ted Biaselli on the latest episode of Eamon O’Donoghue’s TheHotToyCast, Bob Fulkerson (Director of Product Operations at Mondo) revealed that a new animated style figure like He-Man, while talked about, was seemingly not in the works. Here is what Bob said:
"We have talked about it. It's going to depend on market trends and everything else and whether or not Ted gets a Season 3. (Laughs) Turned the tables, Ted, sorry. (Laughs)"
- Bob Fulkerson (Director of Product Operations – Mondo)
So this piece of news seems like quite a turnaround compared to what Pixel Dan was indicating more than a year prior… and definitely is a big disappointment.
We’ll see you next time.
You don’t have to complete the line Mondo but please make He-Man. You can’t have a Skeletor without He-Man.
This is for the best IMO. With the 1/12th line on the way and the soft vinyl MOTU line it doesn’t make sense to have another secondary 1/6 scale line.
There is overlap between products for MOTU collectors and I’d rather Mondo’s 1/6 figures all be in the “main” style. Despite the fact that the line is doing really well, Mattel can pull the plug at any moment. I want 1/6 Tri-Klops, Whiplash and Clawful and tons of other characters. Mondo doesn’t need to make He-Man 1/6…. Again
Let’s get some unique characters in here. And let’s finally realize that Mondo Stratos while we’re at it.
It seems like another not so great indicator against another season of the show.
@firefly I think it’s more an indicator that the market for exhorbitantly expensive MOTU action figures is very limited.
I hope so. Momma needs a season 3!
