Perhaps not as profound as the classic Shakespearean line “To Be or Not to Be”… but when the following report landed on our news desk, it arrived with that question (or at least an asterisk, considering its source.)
While some questionable reporting has come from the website GiantFreakinRobot throughout the years, they have nailed some accurate scoops recently. These confirmed scoops are actually tracked on an individual page they host (found HERE) perhaps to clean a somewhat tarnished reputation. In light of that, we decided to share their latest reporting with a major caveat: please take this with a grain of salt. Their report:
“There’s a new live-action He-Man movie coming from Mattel and with a director already on board they’ve begun casting. The production’s first add is Sacha Baron Cohen as the franchise’s iconic villain, Skeletor.
“Casting Sacha Baron Cohen as Skeletor might lead some to believe this new Masters of the Universe is going in a more comedic direction, but that’s not necessarily true. Sacha Baron Cohen has done as much dramatic work as he has comedy, in the past few years.”
So is this casting news true? We don’t know, but the body type of actor Sacha Baron Cohen would seem to indeed fit a casting agent’s “type”… if that “type” a was a thin, athletic, lanky skeletal appearance (somewhat reminiscent of actor Frank Langella’s Skeletor in the 1987 “Masters of the Universe” movie.)
It is an interesting casting choice for certain, and once again absent of a Skeletor with muscles that originated with his original vintage toy appearance… if true.
We will (of course) keep an eye on this development, but for now, please only treat this as an interesting rumor.
The new Amazon MGM and Mattel Films ”Masters of the Universe” movie is slated for a June 5th 2026 theatrical release date. We’ll see you next time.
That would be an interesting choice. Can he act? I only saw him in Talladega nights.

This choice is so out there I am almost inclined to believe it.
LAME! Forget Skeletor. Will there be Keldor?
Please no. He doesn’t seem like a good fit and he was more relevant like a decade or two ago.
@firefly i don’t think any relevant actor would agree to morph their face as a skull for the entire movie.
Hmm. I could actually see him as Keldor; if we get to see a young Adam then flashbacks to Keldor are possible too? Wondering if this is set in the same universe as Revelation/Revolution or if it gets to make its own continuity? Probably the latter, right?
You people need vision! Sacha has the right height the right body the right bone structure. If he can do a scary voice which I bet he can he will be great!
I heard he was a jerk to people on set before. I’m kind of surprised he isn’t “canceled" like Frank Langella is.

He has not the Phisique du role at all. With all due respect.
I doubt it’s true but I think he’d be a pretty good casting choice for Skeletor!
For some, it’s hard to look past his zany and often controversial comedic image but I think he’s a very underrated actor and definitely knows how to immerse himself into a “character". His physique is not ideal but with the CGI, prosthetics and wardrobe that Skeletor will require, I doubt it’ll be much of an issue.
@dedset13 I have come to terms we’ll never get a Skeletor physique like the figure. It might have looked dumb in real life anyway.
Considering his range I can totally see him there.
Frank Langella didn’t have the proper physique either, but he was excellent nonetheless…
Well, with Teela officials cast, this puts us the closest to a real project since Dolph did the role…
