William Shatner is a living legend.
At 93 years young, the actor, writer, director, traveler, entrepreneur, singer, songwriter and publisher has touched millions of people spanning multiple generations all across the world… one of the latest being his performance as Keldor in the Netflix animated series “Masters of the Universe: Revolution“.
So when an opportunity presents itself to meet the icon, no matter how brief, you take it.
William Shatner made an appearance this weekend at “Chiller Theater”, an expo at the Hilton hotel in Parsippany, New Jersey.
Almost like a comic-con for a more older crowd, the majority of celebrity guests at “Chiller Theater” tend to be stars from iconic shows and movies from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. From Brady Bunch’s Susan Olsen (Cindy) and The Munster’s Butch Patrick (Eddie) to Cybil Sheppard (Moonlighting) and musician Lita Ford, mostly middle-aged fans line-up for these autographs.
Even the great James Tolkan was there, who played Detective Lubic from the 1987 live-action film “Masters of the Universe“.
But having a living legend like William Shatner there was an extra special thing, and crowds were so huge to meet the iconic actor, that people were lined up for hundreds of feet outside.
Considering the massive amount of people lined up to meet the legendary man who played Captain Kirk, Shatner had to move through autographs extremely fast. That was, until it was AJ from For Eternia’s turn.
Equipped with two Masterverse “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” Keldor figures (one to be signed, one as a backup), it appeared like William Shatner had not seen these figures before… nor did William Shatner know that “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” series had even been released.
It was way back in 2022 when William Shatner did the voice recording for Keldor, and he must have recorded his promotional video with Kevin Smith rather early too. (And we already learned through a previous Brent Spiner interview that it is not Shatner actually posting on his social media accounts).
So William Shatner was rather curious about the Keldor figure enough to stop the movement of the line and allow extra time for AJ to ask William Shatner if he would be willing to return as Keldor in a potential third series. (More on that in a minute.)
Here was the brief conversation after the figure was signed:
WILLIAM SHATNER: Wait a minute. Let me see that again.
WILLIAM SHATNER: Is this out?
AJ: The show? Yes, it aired in January.
WILLIAM SHATNER: This is the character I played?
AJ: Yes. Keldor. You were absolutely terrific as him.
WILLIAM SHATNER: [takes the figure back in his hand and looks over box, front to back and reads the bio]
AJ: This actually just came out. I have another figure here if you want to have one.
WILLIAM SHATNER: No… no…
AJ: Seriously it is just an extra. I would be happy to give it to you.
WILLIAM SHATNER: No… no…
SECURITY: let him sign the other one. I think he smudged the signature.
AJ: Sure
WILLIAM SHATNER: Okay.
Now of course, if a MOTU website could ask the great William Shatner anything… and understanding that Masters of the Universe: Revelation & Revolution were designed as a trilogy… it would be – would the legendary William Shatner be willing to return in the role of Kelder. Here is what he had to say:
AJ: So do you think you will play Keldor again?
WILLIAM SHATNER: Hmm. I don’t know. Maybe. If Kevin called me.
So it certainly seems like that the great Bill Shatner would at least consider returning to Eternia one more time. But will he get that chance? Only time will tell.
Thanks to the great William Shatner (and wonderful James Tolkan) for making it such a great weekend. We’ll see you next time!
I dont want a redemptive arc for Keldor but that is pretty damn cool
NEAT! What age is James Tolkan? He looks pretty old too.
@gatorrob he’ll be 93 in june
@carnivius Unreal. Good for him!
@gatorrob Ohh James Tolkan! Yeah, good for him. 🙂
God character played by God actor.
OMG I am so jealous I could SCREAM! 😱
Congratulations AJ and I love that you got both of your figures signed. What luck you have! I also have check out if there are one of these comic cons for old people near me. That would be right up my alley! 🤣
This man has steel DNA.
This is so cool. I love seeing the other celebrities too. Walter Koenig looks so young for his age. Now you need to go find Mark Hamill and complete the autographs set.
I hope we are getting another season.
