VOTING PROBLEM? Are Some People Voting Multiple Times for Eternia’s Choice?

Your vote counts! At least one would like to think so.

But what happens when someone’s vote counts, again and again and again? That is what we are hearing is possibly occurring with Mattel’s Eternia’s Choice.

After the success of the massive Masters of the Universe: Eternia playset crowdfunding campaign that launched last year, Mattel announced this year that fans will be able to vote on the next crowdfunded, large-scale item. They called it “Eternia’s Choice”.

On September 5th Eternia’s Choice went live (found HERE), and it was exciting to learn that the fans would have the Power to shape the next Masters of the Universe crowdfunding project by voting for their top two choices! But apparently some people may have “the Power” more than others.

Selections for Eternia’s Choice

We have received reports that some people are allegedly gaming the system. We have learned that some are voting multiple times in this particular off-site survey very easily, and even spam it with votes using more elaborate methods. (We are not going to describe those methods here in fear of exasperating the problem, but we explored one method short from voting and it does seem to allow you to make selections again.).

If this is truly occurring, each time a person votes more than once, it nullifies a legitimate vote from anyone else who voted once legitimately.

So what happens now? We don’t know. We did bring this to the attention of Mattel. Maybe the website that is hosting the survey has a way of weeding out any voting scams after they have been accepted? That does seem rather improbable, but one can hope.

Voting Closes today, September 10th at 11:59PM Pacific Time.

We’ll see you next time.

  1. It’s impossible to prevent this if you don’t connect the vote to a registered account. SurveyMonkey can just store the status “already voted" in the browser you used to vote and in every other browser and device and/or after deleting cookies or incognito mode you can vote again. It’s basic website and browser functionality. That’s why online surveys are completely useless and have no meaning.
