Rubén Moya, an iconic voice of He-Man, passes away at age 62.

Children of the 1970s and 80s who grew up watching the classic Filmation series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” in dominantly English speaking countries like the United States, grew up with the iconic voice of actor John Erwin as He-Man.

Now to many adults 40 years later, the spectacular iconic work of John Erwin still endures to this day as the best He-Man voice to date. If someone closes their eyes and hears He-Man, they hear John. But for many fans in Spanish speaking countries, that voice they hear is Rubén Moya.

Rubén Moya, a terrific voice actor with a large body of memorable work, lent his voice to the Spanish translation of the 1983 “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” series as He-Man (and Prince Adam.) And as John Erwin embodied the heart and soul of He-Man for so many people in the United States and more, so did Rubén Moya in other parts of the world.

And 40 years later, much like the iconic actor Alan Oppenheimer who voiced Skeletor, Rubén continued to embrace the fandom and anyone who came in contact with him wanting to meet their childhood hero.

Sadly though, we now must report that his loved ones announced yesterday that Rubén Moya died at the age of 62. His family explained that Rubén lost his battle with throat cancer. Our condolences go out to his family, his friends, and then to all the Masters of the Universe fans that were deeply touched by this iconic legend in MOTU history and will be mourning him greatly. He will be missed.

Que en paz descanse, Rubén Moya.
