Series Writer clarifies ”it was not renewed for more” comment regarding the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series

Fans of the Netflix series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” had a bad day this past week when a fan on Twitter asked series writer Amanda Diebert “Is the CGI He-Man canceled or is it just taking a while to finish the next season?” and Amanda replied on Tuesday February 21st with the sad news: “It was not renewed for more“. (That tweet can be found HERE).

Amanda’s response was very definitive, and something not usually revealed by a writer, but more often revealed by the showrunner or the companies involved (Netflix and/or Mattel). And even sometimes, no one ever goes on the record regarding a series not being renewed, and fans just wait for a season that never comes.

But it was publicly out there now, the news that fans were dreading to hear since Netflix originally ordered three seasons worth (26 episodes) several years ago. And fans certainly expressed their sadness in Twitter replies.

Fast forward to a few days later and on Saturday, February 25th, writer Amanda Diebert has now clarified upon that original tweet with a less definitive follow-up. Amanda said:

“y’all. I didn’t say it was canceled. There has been no renewal to my knowledge. That is all I know and I am really quite mad that this is being turned into a news story. I don’t know anything more than any of you and I am very unhappy with the tweets implicating i said more.”

Now industry professionals like the Editorial staff at Rotten Tomatoes recognize a show with no renewal for future episodes as cancelled (unless a show is intended to purposely conclude that season with a series finale, etc.), so we’re not exactly sure what Amanda is meaning here in regards to cancelation versus no renewal. Perhaps Amanda means no renewal as of yet, but leaves it open for a possible Season 4 renewal someday down the road? But either way, it is important that we report on this clarification.

We also hope Amanda’s original public tweet and wonderful openess to respond to a fan’s inquiry about “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” either being cancelled or getting a new season hasn’t landed this fantastic writer into any hot water with Netflix or Mattel. That’s the last thing any of the fans of this great show and Amanda’s great writing, wants.

We’ll see you next time.

  1. And so I’ve gone from felling down in the dumps about CG-Man getting canned to now being…..well, thankfully a LITTLE more enthusiastic that we will get more episodes.
I know nothing is set in stone rn but there’s a little hope for us and the show and so I’m happy. 🥲🩷🩷🩷
The question now is…."how long will it take before Season 4 gets the greenlight/makes it to our screens?"
Just a thought but prehaps Netflix/Mattel are waiting on more toy and book sales? I mean, the show was initially greenlit for 26 episodes and they’ve all been produced/released, so now Netflix/Mattel are just waiting to see how much love/support/fandom there is for this show before taking the CGI brand any further.

  2. Her own wording implies the ride is over, I’m thankful that she is walking this back and still leaving us with hope. My family has been binge watching all weekend and I hope others are as well. I find it odd that Rob Davis hasn’t posted anything on social media since playing tribute to Kevin Conroy.

          1. I read it on Whenetflix but I don’t know if it’s true… I really hope so

Unfortunately, I would be very weary about the website whenetflix. It’s been suggested by many as pure clickbait with no independent confirmations of their information.

Now, I don’t know too much about them personally, but I do know they did indicate She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 6 was coming out in 2022 a couple years ago, and now are saying 2024 (even though She-Ra showrunner Noelle Stevenson said Season 5 was the final season years ago.😀)
