if you are a longtime fan of Masters of the Universe and very familiar with its many iterations of toys and media, it’s no surprise to you that there were a ton of Easter Eggs in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation”. Most likely missed by the casual fans, these references were lovingly sprinkled in by Kevin Smith and team often to simply delight the most hardcore of MOTU fanatics.
Well today, we’re going to focus on the homages in Revelation likely referencing the 1987 Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella film titled… you guessed it… “Masters of the Universe “.
Now we’re going to caveat that even if some of these references have also appeared in other iterations of Masters of the Universe, we still believe these are nods towards the 1987 classic film.
So without further ado, let’s get to it!
Holographic Projections from Castle Grayskull
Those who control Grayskull, control the power to… communicate more vastly than any social media platform could ever hope for! We just love this aspect of addressing the beings of Eternia in the form of a gigantic holographic projection in the Masters of the Universe film, and are doubly happy to see it used in Revelation
Blade
Yes, this highly skilled broadsword weilding villian was first introduced to Masters of the Universe fans back in the 1987 classic film. And now he’s finally back again in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” where he confronts Teela in the bowels of Castle Grayskull. Blade is still as vastly dangerous as he was before, even with just one eye. (Imagine what damage he could do with both eyes!)
Man-at-Arms Scanner
Duncan a.k.a. Man-at-Arms is known to always come prepared with all kinds of gadgets, and is truly a walking Swiss-Army knife. So, we found it rather cool that one of his gadgets, the very same scanner Duncan used in the 1987 film, reappeared in the hands of Teela in Revelation when she and Andra were searching for the Glove of Globula.
Sorceress Force Field
While ultimately serving different purposes; protection versus containment, every time we found the Sorceress in a circular, magical, force field of light in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation”, it hearkened us back to 1987’s Sorceress actress Christina Pickles in a very similar predicament.
Flying Discs
Who can ever forget those awesome flying discs in the 1987 film and the time He-Man commandeered one to combat his enemies. Well this one person transport is back, and Adam and Teela rode one during a hunt in Preternia (and we couldn’t be happier to see it!)
It’s Pigboy!
That’s right! The young winner of the 1986 Mattel contest, the one lucky fan who scored a cameo in the live-action “Masters of the Universe” film as the tiny servant of Skeletor known as “Pigboy” is back! And the little guy is finally getting the spotlight he deserves! Oink!
Let this be our final battle!
Actor Frank Langella absolutely chewed the scenery in the 1987 live-action film and spoke what became so many iconic lines. But perhaps what became the most well known line of dialogue is when Skeletor declares “Let this be our final battle!” Well, apparently the producers of Revelation agreed, because Mark Hamill as Skeletor not only spoke the line once, but said it twice!
And that’s it. Did we miss any? If we did, register and leave it in the comments below. If we concur, we’ll add it to this list and make sure we give you credit for it as well.
Thanks for reading, and Good Journey!
haha I always crack up when I see Pigboy.
I would love to see an animated version of Saurod and Karg in Revelation!
YES!!! Especially Saurod. He was so cool looking yet so underutilized in the film.
