After waiting a couple of days time to process the painful announcement that He-Man voice actor John Erwin has passed away, it is time to start catching up with some news. And one of those bulletins is the Masterverse Masters of the Universe: "New Eternia" Panthor figure is finally coming to the Mattel Creations website for pre-order. First shown off at San Diego Comic-Con last Summer, fans were truly excited to see this long-awaited Battle Cat counterpart finally join the Masters of the Universe Masterverse action figure line. The Masterverse "New Eternia" Panthor at the SDCC Mattel Booth in July of 2024 And…
We have the Power!
This is very exciting! I am waiting to see the price point. Hopefully it will be reasonable but the AUD exchange rate is so crappy at the moment. I wonder will Mattel eventually release a NE Battle Cat.
Oh man I can't wait to see the promo pics for this one and the crazy MC packaging.
The pricing would need to be keen, only it's an enormous mold literally built for years ago... at my end I'd prefer a straight up Panthor without the NE gubbins and even then there's a hundred other items I'd want first. Doesn't help that Cat almost had to be given away and so much time has passed that folks will be running out of room because of various toylines.
Personally I'm struggling to get excited for this one. Despite all the articulation it'll wind up essentially a statue to put Skeletor on.
I've been waiting for a Panthor figure for several years, since I missed Classics Panthor. I need to see the official pics to be enthusiastic though, because that prototype look too glossy, and some times less is more: so may things on it that it resembles one of those overloaded figures from 200X with oversized accessories. I´m hopeful that this Mattel Creations won't be an exception to the masterfully executed figures in the line (Vykron, God-Lyn, Snout-Spout).
Not entirely sure I understand Mattel’s choice here - whereas I do appreciate the New Eternia line - I’d have rather seen an animated cartoon collection Panthor or SWIFTWIND - As cool as New Eternia is - they’d have been better off repackaging and rereleasing Classics - the NE stuff just doesn’t seem to be holding much interest amongst the general population.. not to mention the wonky scale - I’d personally rather see them go all in on the animated line as it is hands down the best line since Classics imo.
@powerofash I used to own the Classics Panthor but unfortunately lost it along with all of my Classics due to my store room being robbed several years ago / Slowly rebuilding that collection- looking forward to the day I can add a Classics Panthor back to the collection- I dunno about this one - not terribly impressed by the photos released so far - we’ll see…
@filmgeek While I still consider Classics as the apex of MOTU toylines overall, the New Eternia designs have single handedly elevated the Masterverse line. It was quite mediocre until the NE designs began to emerge, and they've given that line a personality none of us thought would be possible. I'd still like to see NE versions of several other characters to give them a fresh appearance, but otherwise I agree with you that returning to a Classics aesthetic (with some contemporary tweaks, of course) would be ideal.
Have they lost their mind with that Panthor? It looks like a tacky gothic ornament from two decades ago. It's 'foil covers!' but with MOTU.

@durendal I agree with you on that 100% - I just don’t know that the masses are as interested in Masterverse as the die hards like us lol - I think had they launched Masterverse with New Eternia they’d be in much better shape - that said the new Masterverse Vintage line looks very promising- I personally feel like nothing today matches the value and quality for what we got with Classics and that goes for Marvel Legends and many other toy lines, not just MOTU.
