Hoping this is okay to bring this up in this forum since it says it's just talk so I'm hoping that means talk about stuff that isn't He-Man related.

I'm in a bind in my life where my health has gotten so bad I can't work. My wife is no better off. I was hoping that maybe I could get into doing some video stuff like so many others have and hope for even a fraction of the success they have had with it. My problems is I don't know much about social media or how to even build up a channel. I've had good friendly coping skills in the past and have made a lot of wonderingful friendships off the the internet which if I didn't have that I'd be friendless, no one to talk too about anything.

So I've been trying to figure out how to get things even rolling on the ball. I've got my camera setup, have an awsome setup but I'm running into a huge issue. I don't know how to start the darn thing. Anytime I go over idea I feel like I probaly sound like a bumbling fool. I've written a ton of ideas down and tried them, but each time I just feel like it's not very good. How do I start my video off? I know I should introduce myself. Explain I suppose that the video is all about but everytime I hit that record button and horrified with how difficult my lack in social skills has gotten. I used to do video in the past all the time before the great world wide web was born. I wish I had some of those old videos but after a house fire all those were destroyed. So... How do I get the ball running on this thing. It really feels like it's my only chance of digging myself out of a mess I am facing. I need some tips and advice. I've watched AJ podcasts a lot and admire how he can be so relaxed. Is there anyone else out there who has had some success in doing videos that they would like to share some examples? I really could use all your help. I know someone asked me a question about my mouth situation and why I have not gone to the doctor to have it taken care of. It's this very reason and I know not everyone would agree with my way of thinking. If I'm too broken to take care of my living situation, I tend to lean toward thinking maybe it would be better to let my bad health get the better of me since I can't do anything anyway. But I do want to fight. Just struggling to figure out if this video idea is a worthless time investment... I just don't know what else to do.

Hey, @bricrue

A few thoughts:

1.  You're not alone.  One of the better parts of the internet is that it provides a platform for you to be able to communicate with others.  I promise that as difficult as you are finding it to communicate, there are tons of other people out there who would give anything to be communicating as well as you.  Making videos is like anything else.... You'll get better and more comfortable as you go.

2.  You're never going to be happy with your early work.  This is not a sign of failure, but evidence of your growth.  Don't let the early stumbles and cringy moments keep you from growing and moving forward.I used to be a public school teacher and every single year I taught I wish I could have my group again so I could do it better.... And I felt this way all the way until I left the classroom after almost 25 years.  A huge mistake we all make is in thinking that we have to perform at a certain level before we can do things.  Well, the only way we'll ever get to the level we want is by starting out at the bottom.

3.  There are lots of YouTube videos on how to start a channel. These are a wonderful resource for you to be able to learn from their mistakes, struggles, successes, etc.

4.  Personally, I would start small.  Set a goal of making a video that is 5 minutes long.  Write the script for it and practice it.  The great thing about video is that you don't have to post it.  You can watch it and take notes on what you liked, what you didn't and try it again.  Keep in mind, it won't be perfect and you'll probably be nervous. Maybe it would help for you to go to YouTube channels you like and watch their early videos and compare them with the more modern ones.  This will serve as a bit of 'before and after' so you can see where they started compared to where they are.

I don't know if any of that is specific enough to be helpful, but it's all I got, lol.  I've had some of the same social issues you have described.  Everyone always assumed that I was super extroverted because I was able to teach teenagers.... Nope.  I have always been an introvert, I just knew the extravert skills I had to deploy in order to do the job.  I hope this helps!

Thank you very much, AJ. I appreciate your kind words. I try to treat others as the Lord commands us to. Thinking about now and all those years I taught..... I have failed at that far more than I've succeed, but I'm working on it.

@skeledog I taught Social Studies for about ten years and then taught math for fifteen years. Most of it was middle school, with some high school.
